The School of Laboratory Medicine & Medical Sciences wishes to appoint a principal

technician who will contribute actively to managing research laboratories in the discipline

of Physiology, provide research support to postgraduate students as well as academics in

the discipline. The incumbent will oversee the running of all the research laboratories

embedded in the Physiology discipline which will include maintaining stock of all lab

consumables, oversee calibration and maintenance of all the research equipment,

training of staff and postgraduate students, facilitate booking of the labs, developing and

updating SOPs etc. S/he will also be responsible for some duties in other sections of the

School. S/he must be able to advise on the purchasing of new equipment and will be

responsible for maintaining the asset register. S/he will ensure that proper health and safety

requirements are maintained in the School and coordinate the disposal of biohazard

waste in the research labs. The incumbent will supervise assigned laboratory staff as well

as perform administrative functions and other duties based on the operational needs of

the School as determined by management.

**Minimum Requirements**:

- A relevant BSc Honours degree in a Biomedical field,
- Four (4) years’ relevant experience of which 2 years must be at a supervisory level,
- Experience in a wide range of medical science laboratory techniques including

DNA extraction, PCR, Western Blot, Flow Cytometry, Blood Analysis, Tissue/Cell

culture techniques and
- An unendorsed valid driver’s license.
