Gc Hod Geography

The Girls’ College is seeking to appoint a new head of department for Geography as our current incumbent is taking on a promotional role. This is a management position overseeing and leading the Geography department comprised of three other full time Geography teachers. We are seeking a person that has excellent administration, organisation and communication skills as well as the capacity to work under pressure whilst maintaining a friendly and welcoming demeanour. Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced individuals who believe they have the required skills and competencies to take on this position from 1 September 2023.

The requirements for this position are:

- A suitable professional qualification and appropriate academic experience
- Knowledge of the IEB academic and administration expectations are a distinct advantage
- Experience teaching Geography at a FET level, including Grade 12
- Experience at IEB or DBE Grade 12 marking would be a distinct advantage
- Understanding of current educational practices and trends, with a particular focus on Geography
- Excellent computer skills, and vision with respect to how technology can enhance the learning experience
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- The ability to work with multiple stakeholders including, staff, students, and parents
- The ability to create and sustain relationships with students and colleagues in our College environment
- An unequivocal commitment to efficiency in a busy school
- Flexibility to adapt to the changing needs of the College
- A commitment to on-going personal and professional development
- An awareness of the nature of the school and willingness to commit to its all-round ethos
