**Job Description | Financial Controller**

**Group Summary**

Our client is a holding company with ownership in promotional product companies in 11 countries across Africa. Together, the group serves 2,000+ clients in over 40+ African countries.

**Position Summary**

The Financial Controller is responsible for the group’s management of the financial systems and controls, management accounting, financial reporting, treasury and tax compliance functions the company’s operations in ten jurisdictions. The role requires an individual who has pan-African experience and familiarity with multiple tax jurisdiction. As well as being responsible for the performance of all finance staff, the Group Financial Controller contributes regularly to the overall direction of the Group by being part of the Leadership Team.

**Responsibilities**
- **Preparation and Review of accounts**
- Ensure the preparation of timely and accurate monthly management accounts (Division and Consolidated) and reports for operational management.
- Responsibility for the review of all journals and final GL balances including review of month end balance sheet reconciliations and control accounts.
- Ensure the accuracy and integrity of the Group’s accounting records and financial systems.
- Supervise and monitor the preparation of the annual financial statements of all the group companies in accordance with the relevant accounting principles and the legislation of the countries in which they operate.
- Coordination of external audit activities with group auditors.
- Effective organization of in country revenue authority audit activities.
- Provide relevant and timely financial information to the Group’s board to enable a balanced and objective assessment of the Group’s strategy and objectives.
- Prepare the finance section of the Board packs as and when required for Board meetings.
- **Budgets and forecasts**
- Preparation, review and approval of budgets, forecasts and business plans and continued monitoring and review of performance against them to enable robust reporting of variances to the CEO and the Board.
- **Financial management & controls**
- Effectively manage working capital across the Group with specific attention to ensure suppliers are paid within their credit terms and regular follow up of outstanding debtors.
- Manage and reconcile Cross Border and intercompany transactions in accordance with the Group’s transfer pricing policy and Service Level Agreements in place.
- Active management of overheads whilst seeking out areas for efficiencies for savings.
- Manage liquidity, cash and borrowing facilities across the Group, including performing a treasury function to transfer cash between bank accounts and cross-border.
- Review and update, in line with good practice, the Group’s internal control environment and produce a Controls and Procedures Manual for review and adoption by management.
- Play an active role in assisting management in the risk assessment process and embedding a risk management culture throughout the organization.
- **Taxation**
- Provide support in the development and execution of the Group’s taxation strategy, including transfer pricing.
- Ensure returns for all statutory taxes (corporation tax, VAT, NSSF, NHIF, WHT and other relevant taxes) are submitted on time, payments made on time and all relevant regulations are complied with.
- Develop structures and procedures in regard to accounting systems and transactions to ensure tax efficiency for the Group companies.
- **Information technology**
- Ensure users have access to the key components of the accounting system, receive adequate training and have the essential reports readily available to facilitate decision-making and problem solving.
- Ensure that accounting systems are maintained and updated regularly and are enhanced or supplemented where necessary to meet the Group’s needs.
- **Staff**
- Effectively manage, motivate, and develop the finance department.
- Supervise and review performance of individuals in the finance team.
- Implementation of a change management culture by challenging and replacing established processes and procedures where necessary.
- Give direction and leadership towards the achievement of each Group company’s strategy and its annual goals and objectives.
- Liaise with different departments to ensure the finance department is properly supporting the needs of the operating businesses.
