Medical Laboratory Technician

**Main purpose of the job**:

- To process, analyze, interpret, and produce participant results on blood. To process, store, and ship specimens per protocol

**Location**:

- **DPHRU - Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital, Soweto - Johannesburg**

**Key performance areas**:

- Working according to the study protocol
- Analyse, interpret and produce participant results
- Laboratory practices - biological sample handling and biochemical tests according to GCLP
- Data and sample inventory capturing
- Daily QCs
- Report any quality control issues to laboratory management
- Consumable inventory monitoring and ordering
- Sample transportation
- Maintenance of all equipment used e.g., ensuring calibrations are up to date
- Monitor the quality of specimens received
- Ensure samples are well inventoried and uploaded onto the laboratory management system

**Required minimum education and training**:

- **National Diploma in Medical Technology (3 years) or equivalent**

**Required minimum work experience**:

- **Minimum 3 years experience in a clinical pathology laboratory**

**Professional body registration**:

- Registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa as a Board-Certified Medical Technologist

**Desirable additional education, work experience, and personal abilities**:

- Good Clinical Practice/Human Subject Protection certification advantageous
- Ability to lead and work independently as well as be part of a multidisciplinary team
- Flexibility to adapt to changes in study requirements
- Must possess strong organizational skills
- Must be detail orientated
- Computer literacy
- Willingness to learn
