**Health, Safety and Environmental Specialist**

**Market-related Salary Package**

**Limpopo, South Africa**

An experienced international power plant owner and operator. In South Africa, they own and operates a number of renewable energy (RE) power plants across the country, in both wind and solar power. The Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) specialist acts as the first point of contact for all HSE-related matters for his/her allocated power plants and/or offices. The primary function of the Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) specialist is to implement HSE policies, procedures and guidelines on the designated plants and/or offices, to achieve and maintain a safe and healthy working environment.
The HSE Specialist will be based at the Solar Power Plant in the Limpopo Province.

**Key Responsibilities**

1. Develop, implement, monitor and review HSE management systems on designated sites and /or offices, including, but not limited to HSE policies, procedures, guidelines, objectives and practices.

2. Schedule and execute audits on sites and /or offices to identify areas of improvement and implement measures as required, including contractor audits and hygiene surveys.

3. Lead the risk/ impact and aspect assessments on a continuous basis on sites and /or offices.

4. Provide HSE training, awareness and induction on site and /or offices to staff, contractors and other relevant parties based on training matrix and job requirements.

5. Engage with staff, contractors and other relevant parties with respect to HSE matters related to the site and /or offices.

6. Maintain and analyze HSE statistical records, such as incidents, accidents, near-misses, exposure hours and resource consumption. Train staff on data collection requirements and methodologies.

7. Manage scheduling and assigning safety inspections on the electronic resource planning program and complete ‘Permit to Work’ audits as required.

8. Assist the plant manager and/or GMR2.1 with the management of incidents and audits on the electronic resource planning program.

9. Compile the required HSE reports.

10. Implement the requirements of the Environmental
authorizations, permits, licenses and programs and monitor implementation on site and /or offices.

11. Support and guide Site Manager to implement accident/incident prevention activities and HSE initiatives on site.

12. Review, drive and monitor implementation of site-specific management plans, including emergency response, fall protection and biodiversity management plans on site.

13. Monitor legal updates in the HSE field and share information on applicable updates with relevant personnel, implementing changes were needed.

**REQUIREMENTS**

1. Minimum National Diploma in Safety Management or Environmental Sciences or equivalent NQF level qualification.

2. Minimum 3 years' relevant working experience.

**Skills and Competencies**
1. Basic knowledge of relevant HSE legislation and practices (OHS Act and Regulations, COIDA, NEMA, EIA regulations, etc.).

2. Working knowledge of ISO 45001 and ISO 14001.3. Intermediate computer literacy; should be very comfortable working on a computer.

4. Skilled in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

5. High levels of organizational commitment and responsiveness; able and willing to align own behavior and actions with the values and goals of the organisation.

6. Highly effective verbal communication skills, including influencing behavior regardless of positional authority.

7. Very good written communication skills; clear and concise expression of ideas or information.

8. Good inter-personal skills; able to work effectively in a team, with internal and external stakeholders, to accomplish organizational goals and identify and resolve problems.
