**Kumba Iron Ore**
We produce high-grade iron ore, the key component in steel widely used in construction and manufacturing across the world. Our activities include all aspects - exploration; mining; processing and blending; shipping; marketing and selling. In South Africa, we have mining operations in the Northern Cape province, as well as a head office in Centurion, Gauteng, and a port operation in Saldanha Bay, Western Cape.

**Job Description**:

- You will also be involved in consuming data, building algorithms and models to predict risk to help save lives. Other duties will Involved in will the following:

- Work closely with members of the Data Analytics team or business discipline to understand the question they are trying to address to unlock value, and the data they have or need to collect to address the question (relevant domains; Geosciences, Exploration, Processing, Mining, Health and Safety, Finance, etc).
- Assist the Data Analytics team or business discipline in designing data capture / experimental setups for exploratory work, or changes in process / data capture in existing systems.
- Perform exploratory data analysis, using R or Python, and provide rapid iterations of analysis to refine posed problems, and identify potential solutions.
- Develop statistical models, algorithms and/or machine learning algorithms to analyse data and address a particular business question.
- Assist with developing and deploying production workflows for taking data in real-time or periodically from sites / business functions, passing the data through the developed models and producing the relevant reporting without human intervention.
- Work with and support the Data Analytics team on reporting from analytics tools and developed models.
- Work with and support the Data Analytics team and business functions in architecture of data warehousing and data-lake as required

**This role is in the **Engineering **Department on a Band 6 reporting to the **Principal Data Analyst -Business Improvement**

**Qualifications**:

- You will need the following Qualification and Experience:

- Bachelor’s degree in quantitative fields like computer science, engineering, statistics, mathematics, or related field; advanced degree is a plus
- 5+Years as Data Scientist

Technical Knowledge:

- Mathematical / statistical modelling
- Exploratory data analysis
- Experience in common machine learning algorithms including logistic regressions, SVMs and Neural Networks
- Strong SQL, Python and R skills
- MLOps and DevOps experience
- Machine learning modelling experience with big data
- Experience in software architecture and system Design
- Experience using Apache Spark in a production system using Scala and Python
- Experience of using on premise and cloud platform to architect and build data pipelines
- Having experience in Spark orchestration tools such as Apache Airflow
