**Our esteemed client, a leader in gold mining operations, is seeking a highly skilled Junior Metallurgist to join their team based in Springs, Gauteng. This role supports and optimizes operations in a gold processing plant, including milling, thickening, Carbon-in-Leach (CIL), elution, electrowinning, and tailings management. Under the guidance of senior metallurgists, the successful applicant will assist with routine metallurgical tasks, monitor process performance, and actively contribute to continuous improvement initiatives. This entry-level opportunity offers valuable hands-on experience across all critical stages of the gold recovery process.**

**Requirements**:

- Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgy, Mineral Processing, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline
- 0 - 2 years of experience (including internships or co-op assignments) in mineral processing or gold plant operations preferred.
- Basic understanding of metallurgical processes related to milling, thickening, CIL, elution, electrowinning, and tailings management.
- Familiarity with metallurgical lab test work, data analysis tools, and process monitoring instrumentation.
- Valid License and own vehicle
- Clear criminal record and ability to pass client site medical examinations.

**Duties**:

- Collect, analyse, and interpret samples (e.g., ore, slurry, solution, tailings) from milling, thickening, CIL, elution, electrowinning, and tailings areas.
- Contribute to laboratory test work (e.g., leach kinetics, carbon loading tests) to support plant optimization efforts.
- Assist senior metallurgists with daily metallurgical accounting and process audits.
- Collaborate with senior metallurgists to troubleshoot process variances in milling, thickening, carbon-in-leach circuits, elution, and electrowinning.
- Contribute to laboratory test work (e.g., leach kinetics, carbon loading tests) to support plant optimization efforts.
- Assist in identifying opportunities for improvement in gold recovery, reagent consumption, and overall operational efficiency.
- Work closely with plant operators and maintenance teams to ensure smooth, cost-effective operation of milling, CIL, and downstream circuits.
- Provide on-the-ground support during plant shut-downs, start-ups, and maintenance activities, ensuring tasks are completed safely and effectively.
- Help maintain plant and laboratory equipment by performing routine inspections and reporting any issues promptly.
- Follow company and regulatory safety protocols, wearing proper PPE and adhering to safe work practices in all process areas.
- Assist in environmental monitoring for tailings disposal and water management to ensure compliance with local regulations.
- Participate in safety audits, risk assessments, and continuous improvement of safety procedures.
- Maintain thorough records of metallurgical test results, process changes, and daily production data.
- Compile routine reports and presentations on process performance, highlighting trends and anomalies for review by senior metallurgists and management.
- Ensure data integrity by adhering to established documentation and quality control procedures.
- Stay up-to-date with industry best practices and emerging technologies in gold processing.
- Seek mentorship from senior staff, taking on progressively more complex responsibilities as skills develop.
- Participate in training programs and workshops to enhance technical knowledge and leadership capabilities.
