Counsellor (Pss) Wits RHi (Gophelega) Tshwane

**Main purpose of the job**:

- To provide HIV testing services, holistic counselling, health education and support to clients with a focus on adherence, and psychosocial matters related to HIV

**Location**:

- **Pretoria - Tshwane**

**Key performance areas**:

- Conduct in-depth one on one pre and post-counselling sessions as and when required in accordance with HIV testing services guidelines
- Conduct group counselling as required, in accordance with counselling guidelines
- Facilitate index case testing
- Support the implementation of HIV self-testing strategies
- Conduct mental health screening and provide appropriate referrals as required
- Document referral networks to support referral for social and mental health services as required
- Develop and implement Youth Care Clubs and I ACT support groups
- Provide support regarding HIV testing services guidelines and support groups as and when required
- Provide HIV and sexual reproductive health information to clients that include but is not limited to pregnancy and pregnancy prevention, STIs, HIV and HIV prevention, adherence, ARVs, nutrition, PMTCT, hygiene
- Provide counselling regarding HIV, including HIV disclosure, and ART adherence
- Identify and recruit clients into differentiated care models including Youth Care Clubs and I ACT support groups within allocated facilities
- Provide HIV testing services in line with guidelines
- Ensure testing is provided according to quality standards
- Comply with SOPs and guidelines
- Accurately document counselling conducted in client files (or equivalent)
- Ensure data is captured in the relevant registers and reported as required
- Record information and data into the electronic database as required
- Compile monthly reports
- Assist with operational research-related activities as and when required
- Take ownership and accountability for tasks and demonstrates effective self-management
- Follow through to ensure that quality and productivity standards of own work are consistently and accurately maintained
- Maintain a positive attitude and respond openly to feedback
- Take ownership of driving own career development by participating in ongoing training and development activities

**Required minimum education and training**:

- **Grade 12**:

- **Accredited certificate in Basic Counselling and HIV with enhanced adherence counselling skills as an added advantage**

**Required minimum work experience**:

- **2 years experience in HIV Counselling or equivalent**

**Desirable additional education, work experience and personal abilities**:

- Training in enhanced adherence counselling skill
- Fluency in more than one African Language (relevant to the area)
- Experience with adolescent HIV and SRH counselling
- Sensitivity to the specific needs of adolescents and young people and key populations
- Experience with support group facilitation
- Training and experience as an I ACT facilitator
- Ability to prioritize tasks and work towards deadlines
- Be a team player
- Strong communication and presentation skills
- Have good time management skills
- Competent to counsel and prick for HIV testing

- Confidentiality, tact and discretion should be maintained at all times
- Ability to work well with key populations, adolescents and young people, and to understand their health and psychosocial needs

**Communications and relationships**:

- Build and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers and stakeholders
