**Position reports to**: Director**
Type: Permanent
Primary purpose: To plan, organise, manage and control the Pretoria Workshop as a profit centre and business unit.
Key performance areas:

- Manage cost centres in terms of budget.
- Support manufacturing’s commercial activities from proposals, project planning and budgeting through to contract and claim management.
- Manage, plan and implement policies of the company to ensure continuing operations,
- Strives to continuously improve productivity.
- To develop, implement, modify and manage manufacturing and production processes in order to achieve targets.
- Analyse operations to evaluate and optimise the performance of business unit and staff in meeting objectives.
- Determine areas of potential cost reduction.
- Supports senior management in negotiating contracts with clients, suppliers, or other entities.
- Direct and co-ordinate the activities of the Fabrication Manager and interact effectively with Work Preparation offices, Project Managers, QA and QC.
- Managers to achieve optimum, high quality outputs within given time lines.
- Recruit, manage by objectives, reward, recognize, motivate, train, develop and discipline where necessary in the fabrication departments.
- Ensure full compliance to health, safety and environment as well as legal requirements.
- Planning of production equipment maintenance and downtime requirements.
- Weekly reporting of production status and implementing corrective action as required.
- To manage and oversee breakdown work after hours and on weekends.
- Evaluate and report on a project’s cost effectiveness, risk profile and profitability
- Any other job-related duties as requested from time to time.

Job Qualification & Experience:
Preferred Requirements:

- Grade 12/N3.
- N.Dip (Production Management, Mechanical or Electrical Heavy Current)/ B.Sc. Eng. (Mechanical or Electrical Heavy Current).
- Post-graduate qualification or certificate course in business management, management accounting or similar would be advantageous.
- Minimum 15 years of experience in production or fabrication environment, with the at least the last 5 years in a senior management position.
- Exposure to utility boiler and steam piping maintenance would be advantageous.
- Knowledge of induction bending, high pressure piping, pressure vessels and boiler pressure part production.
- Practical knowledge of welding processes.
- Proficient in reading engineering drawings.
- Sound knowledge of fabrication processes and workflow.
- Project Management in a fabrication environment.
- Understands the commercial aspects of fabrication projects.
- Entrepreneurial approach to tendering and operations management.
- Competent in management accounting and able to interpret financial statements with a view to initiating changes on the shop floor.
- Able to derive a look-ahead and plan accordingly.
- Computer literate (MS Office).
