Instrumentation Mechanician

**The core responsibilities of the position include**:

- Process optimization and carry out preventative, corrective and statutory instrumentation maintenance to ensure assets perform in line with the company safety policies.
- Attending instrumentation breakdowns, shutdown activities, project work and implementing plant optimization to ensure improved reliability.
- Assist with developing, improving and executing maintenance plans for various key machine centers.
- Assist in highlighting and driving improvement opportunities in the plant.
- Assist with spares management and maintain and improve SHE standards.
- Update computerized maintenance management system (MAXIMO) to manage workflow.
- Cost containments initiatives and the ability to solve problems using various problem-solving tools.
- Programming, maintenance and fault finding on electrical and control systems.
- Planning and execution of projects (new plant upgrades and modifications).
- Co-ordination of industrial control, automation and instrumentation systems.

**The requirements for the position include**:

- A recognized apprenticeship, trade test and red seal.
- Have a minimum of 3 years’ post apprenticeship experience in a heavy industrial manufacturing environment.
- Strong electrical background with strong PLC fault-finding and programming skills.
- Sound knowledge of AC and DC drives and motors.
- Experience with furnaces, burners and a strong knowledge of PID loops will be advantageous.
- Ability to assist with planning of shutdowns and co-ordinate maintenance activities.
- Strong project management and report writing skills.
- Fully conversant with Isolation and Lock-out procedures.
- The ability to work in a manufacturing team and to interface with all team members.
- Ability to work unsupervised and to find faults on complex circuits.
- To actively participate in reliability forums.
- Be prepared to work overtime and perform standby duties.
- In excellent health to be able to work at heights under extreme conditions.
- Ability to work well under pressure and able to work in a hot environment.
