Operator - Boring Mill Lathe Machine

Situated in Bayhead, Durban, the operator will be responsible to control a boring mill lathe machine to set up, adjust and operate the machine to turn, bore, face, groove, recess, taper etc. on a variety of standardized work where skill is required to maintain tolerances on related dimensions.

Main Duties include:

- Ensure proper monitoring, maintenance, recording and upkeep of all equipment
- Adhere to all SHE procedures and legislation. Ensure strict adherence to OHSA
- Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machines
- Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometers and vernier calipers
- Check workpieces to ensure that they are properly lubricated and cooled
- Lay out, measure and mark metal stock in order to display placement of cuts to specification
- Measure, examine and test completed units in order to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using precision instruments
- Set up involves some blocking, aligning and securing of work pieces having irregular shapes
- Study sample parts, blueprints, drawings and engineering information in order to determine methods and sequences of operations needed to fabricate products and determine product dimensions and tolerances
- Clean and lubricate machines, tools and equipment in order to remove grease, rust, stains and foreign matter
- Confer with engineering, supervisory and manufacturing team to exchange technical info.

Criteria:

- Grade 12 plus Math
- Engineering qualification is advantageous
- Min. 4 years practical skills and technical knowledge to operate the Boring Mill Lathe Machine
- Working knowledge of how to program and troubleshoot the machine
- Be willing to work standby, overtime, shutdowns as required
- Computer literacy
- Valid Driver's Licence
