**Job Description**:

- The purpose of the Geologist - Kimberlite Petrology is to acquire and interpret petrological data and provide recommendations to support business decision making at various phases of diamond exploration.

**Key responsibilities**:

- Examine samples and related datasets to produce well-researched and technically sound routine petrological reports to ensure effective business decision making.
- Provide comprehensive technical assessments of available drill core and/or sample material to resolve geophysical targets and/or build 3D geological models of kimberlites by integrating drill-core logging and sampling, petrography, geochemical and petrophysical data, mineral chemistry and emergent technologies like hyperspectral core imaging, AutoSEM and portable field devices like pXRF.
- Compile, analyze and integrate existing petrological data and information from approved repositories, including historical documents, commercial and public domain sources to support active projects and Exploration targeting objectives.
- Interpret data and information in the context of the diamond mineral system and integrate with other disciplines (e.g. mineral chemistry, geophysics, diamonds) to provide technical reports and recommendations in support of Exploration decision making processes.
- Provide recommendations in terms of further data acquisition where required to address identified information gaps.
- Interact with Exploration field teams and provide technical assurance of technical deliverables (e.g. borehole logging and sampling activities and outputs) to ensure effective decision-making and alignment with exploration business objectives.
- Provide recommendations in terms of good drill-core management practices at the various core shed facilities and work with the field staff to create a safe working environment.
- Collaborate with the Exploration field geologists and petrologist(s) to review and update the geoscientific data acquisition process workflows.
- Provide essential support and active contribution to the Petrology Community of Practice in terms of technical input to project technical reviews, governance and procedures documentation and recommendations.
- Provide relevant and up-to-date technical training / guidance to appropriate exploration staff (in active ventures) in technical or other fields of competency.
- Qualifications
- BSc Honors degree in Geology and/or Geochemistry(NQF 8).
- MSc/PhD (NQF 9/10) in relevant speciality is an advantage.
- Registered professional in a recognized body (e.g. SACNASP) or eligible for such registration.

**Knowledge and Experience required**:

- Relevant post-graduate experience, preferably in mining and/or exploration for primary diamond deposits.
- Proven data management experience (e.g. MS Access, SQL,Cloud Platforms,MS Excel, etc.).
- Experience in the use of GIS (e.g. ArcGISPro), 3D modelling software (e.g. Leapfrog, GEMCOM, etc.) and/or drillhole visualization and editing software (e.g. Target, Datamine Discover, Target for ArcGIS, etc.).
- Exploration/resource/research drilling techniques field experience is desirable.
- Core logging and sampling, preferably with specific kimberlite experience would be advantageous.
- Knowledge and understanding of the principles and concepts of kimberlite petrology, physical volcanology and geochemistry applied to kimberlite emplacement models and their significance to diamond mining and/or exploration is advantageous.
- Experience in statistical data analysis and visualization software (e.g. JMP, Python, R, MS PowerBI, etc.) is advantageous.
