Applications are invited for the above-indicated vacancy within Newzroom Afrika. The incumbent will report to the online news editor and executive producer.
Job purpose
The online output Producer is a key member of the news team. The individual must be an all-rounder and competent on social media platforms, cutting video clips, production systems and writing copy for Newzroom Afrika’s social media platforms.
Key responsibilities
Manage and regularly update the Newzroom Afrika’s social media accounts.
Upload content attend to followers’ sentiments and fans across various platforms. These includes but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram and WhatsApp.
Edit interviews and video content from the system and upload it on all Newzroom Afrika’s social media platforms.
Integrate social media with linear TV through production. This includes working closely with Newzroom Afrika’s production team to produce and line up as required by on-air linear platforms
Attend regular digital content planning, creative and brainstorming sessions.
Proactively engage in innovative sessions that will take the digital department to the next level and greater heights.
Stay abreast of new developments in the social media space and new story-telling trends.
Innovate constantly, including creating a Newzroom presence on other social media platforms
Select user-generated content that can be used on-air and segment across social media platforms. Save the content on Google Drive and share links with the Online News Editor who will share the content with the editorial team and show producers.
Create daily social media polls for different shows where required and monitor results.
Monitor trending topics on social media and share brief information about trending topics. The information needs to be shared with the Online News Editor who will share the content with the editorial team and show producers.
Manage and regularly update the Newzroom Afrika’s social media accounts.
Upload content attend to followers’ sentiments and fans across various platforms.
These includes but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, and WhatsApp.
Attend social media call-outs request by editorial and show producers. Coordinate social media call-outs
Work with the rest of the Newzroom Afrika newsroom to ensure the use of social media effectively in daily coverage, special projects, and planning
Attend training workshops as and when required. Fill in the Social Media Sheet register. A social media register is a form which the team fills in after each shift. The purpose for this is to monitor and trace the work done by each team member.
Skills and competencies
An appropriate post-matric qualification, journalism, digital and communications qualification
At least two years' experience in a related field
Fluency in isiZulu/isiXhosa
Excellent written and verbal skills
Tech and social media savvy
Passion for digital communication
A firm grasp of current affairs, both local and international
An excellent knowledge of media law and ethics
Sub-editing experience would be a great advantage
Outstanding communication and Interpersonal skills
Excellent writing skills
