Senior Agricultural Economist

**Job Purpose**:
The Department of Agriculture, Western Cape Government has an employment opportunity for a competent individual to oversee the rendering of economic services within the agribusiness sector. This post is based in Elsenburg, Stellenbosch.

**Recommendation**:
Practical experience in and exposure to agricultural marketing value chains analysis (domestic and international); A broader practical understanding of the agricultural marketing environment, agricultural marketing polices and marketing of agricultural products’ legislation.

**Key Performance Areas**:
Conduct Product focused Market Research with the major emphasis on new or niche sectors and products; Produce trade analysis reports on market requirements such as sanitary and phytosanitary measures and technical requirements, rules and certificates of origin; Trade remedies and applied tariff rates for different markets and supply advice to clients; Communicate with industry role players and represent the Western Cape on various platforms (locally and internationally); Oversee the execution of projects by the Agricultural Economists.

**Competencies**:
Knowledge of economic and financial analytical techniques; Proven computer literacy (MS Office); Skills needed: Statistical; Negotiation; Communication (written and verbal).

**Remuneration**:
R 491 403 per annum (Salary Level 10)
