Boiler Operator

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Operation of two 8 ton and one 10 ton John Thomson Coal Fired Boilers to generate steam that supplies energy or power for processes.

**KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS**:

- **Safe and efficient operation of John Thomson Boilers**.
- Observe pressure, temperature and meters on panels to operate boilers efficiently.
- Blowdown of boilers.
- Operate bucket elevators and conveyers to supply coal to feeding hoppers.
- **Basic preventative maintenance**.
- Assist artisan doing boiler maintenance.
- Regular inspection and cleaning of the fire tubes.
- **Record keeping**:

- Ensure record keeping of coal received, water used and parameter settings of boilers.
- **Maintain an environment that function according to statutory requirements: i.e. Explosives act, Occupational Health and Safety Act**.
- Wear PPE supplied.
- Ensure medical surveillance is adhered to.
- Improve housekeeping standards.
- Ensure statutory compliance.

WHAT QUALIFICATIONS YOU SHOULD HAVE
- Minimum qualification: Matric / NQF 4 Equivalent qualification
- Qualified and certified Boiler operator in the operation of John Thomson coal fired boilers.
- In depth knowledge of the efficient operation of John Thomson boilers.
- Ability to read and interpret parameter readings on boiler instrumentation panels.
- Ability to work systematically
- Ability to pay attention to detail
- Demonstrate good judgement
- Hand dexterity
- Willing to work shifts and overtime
- Knowledge of daily reports and accuracy of information
- Understand the importance of correct measurements, material identification and stock control.
- Ability to read, write and communicate in English
