Electrician Artisan

Our client provides a wide range of products and services to the steel industry in South Africa from their modern and comprehensive steel service centres and specialty steel divisions. They are looking to appoint a qualified Electrician with 5 years of maintenance experience in process lines (metal processing plant experience would be an advantage). Electrical experience on technical support, on site repairs and preventative maintenance, panel designing, and wiring are essential. PLC fault finding and variable speed drives also essential.

**Position details**:
Type: Permanent
Reports to: Maintenance Technician
Primary purpose: This position would form an integral part of the preventative and breakdown maintenance, new projects and machine upgrades within the company in assistance to production related requests.

Key performance areas (duties & responsibilities):
Ensure safety standards and safe work practices are adhered to as per company policy.
Perform risk assessments as required.
Ensure that workplace is kept safe, that protective clothing is in use where mandatory and that all safety precautions which have been instructed are compiled with.
Control material wastage.
Complete daily reports and time sheets accurately and timeously.
Take care of all small tools and minor plant in use and return these to safekeeping at the end of each day.
Checks that the sub-contractor is carrying out his work correctly on an AD-HOC basis.
Assist and perform any reasonable assignment as requested by management from time to time out of his/her scope of deadline.
Meet job deadlines.
Ensure that adequate inspection and tests are carried out and properly documented in line with OHS act.
Attend regular progress review meetings.
Work overtime/shifts as required.
Perform all maintenance related work on and in plant to prescribed maintenance schedules.
Take control of assigned subordinates.

Academic qualifications:
Qualified Electrician
NTC3/ Equivalent Qualification

**Experience**:
5 years maintenance experience in process lines.

The enormous processing plant in Germiston boasts state-of-the-art equipment and handles in excess of 700 000 tons of steel every year. They are able to maintain critical steel product stock levels, and have a vast transport infrastructure, which allows for rapid distribution of steel products. The branch incorporates all of the company’s products, services and divisions (except for the tube division) and they distribute a large variety of steel to the local structural and plate industries as well as the export market.

Products include automotive, cash sales, fabricated steel, flat products, long products as well as open sections. Services range from blanking, coil processing, cropping, export and trade, fabrication, slitting and guillotining to merchanting distribution and a service centre.
