- Job Description
- Identify key legal risks and opportunities associated with employment law and advise clients as to risks, strategy and potential costs as well as alternatives for successful and cost-effective achievement of commercial objectives.
- Working under guidance from the Legal Manager: Employment and/or any Legal Principal: Employment, implement best practices for employment law in South Africa and implement compliance programs.
- Manage client relationships to deliver high quality/timely advice to Anglo American’s South African based operations and business plans.
- Where appropriate, appoint external legal service providers (both external law firms and/or legal process outsourcing firms) to support any employment law outcome in a cost effective and efficient manner.
- Manage provision of internal and external legal services and provide legal advice in a cost-effective manner in South Africa.
- Manage employment processes assigned to the role holder for value in accordance with any Group Legal playbooks and a Legal Project Management approach. Support the development and review playbooks and, where necessary, the development of new playbooks and review of existing playbooks.
- Report to client on a regular and consistent basis in relation to progress, costs and issues arising and obtain approval for material decisions in all matters in which the role holder is the lead lawyer. Update the Group Legal reports comprehensively and accurately as-and-when material developments occur or monthly, whichever is the more frequent. Where required, participate in briefings of General Counsel, Head of Legal South Africa, BU management and other stakeholders

**Technical Skills**:

- Demonstrate strong technical ability as a lawyer.
- Demonstrate organisational skills, interpersonal skills, analytical skills, technical skills, problem solving skills etc.
- Assimilate and articulate multiple sources of information to provide advice on key issues.
- Manage employment law assignments cognisant of the challenges created by multiple regulators and stakeholders.
- Perform analysis in relation to legal process and the ability to understand legal processes as a series of replicable tasks.
- Perform analysis in relation to assessing legal risk and a demonstrable ability to develop strategies for dealing with employment matters, and to think critically and analytically in relation to legal problems.
- Manage a practice independently including attending to administrative tasks in relation thereto.
- Demonstrate experience and a demonstrable track record of interacting with colleagues in supply chain, finance, corporate finance, business development and tax roles as well as regulators.
- Qualifications
- LLB or equivalent.
- Proven significant post qualification (university degree) experience.
- Attorney or equivalent or advocate or equivalent, in all instances previously a member of a law society or of the bar in good standing.
- Excellent written and spoken English.
- Drivers Licence.
- Microsoft Office proficiency.
- Ability to research law (online and library).
- Proof of professional registration and qualifications.
