**The South African Petroleum Industry Association (SAPIA)** represents the collective interests of the South African petroleum industry. The Association plays a strategic role in addressing a range of common issues relating to the refining, distribution and marketing of petroleum products, as well as promoting the industrys environmental and socio-economic progress. SAPIA fulfils this role by proactively engaging with key stakeholders, providing research information, expert advice and communicating the industrys views to government, members of the public and media.

SAPIA currently represent 22 petroleum refining and marketing companies in South Africa and seeks to recruit a new staff member to join its Secretariat based in Johannesburg

Reporting to the Executive Director, the position is responsible for creating, managing, and communicating content; messaging and delivery on a communications strategy for the organisation in line with organisational objectives.

**Key Accountabilities**
- Developing and implementing a communications plan and providing leadership for special communication projects.
- Ensuring initiatives and projects are clearly communicated to key audiences.
- Write, edit, publish and distribute content adherence to style guides, including articles, press releases, social media posts, newsletters, website content, annual reports, speeches, internal and external communication channels.
- Work collaboratively with other Association staff to develop and implement comprehensive advocacy campaigns.
- Manage crisis communication when occurs.
- Ensure articulation of Associations desired image and position, assure consistent communication of image and position throughout the Association, and assure communication of image and position to all stakeholders, both internal and external.
- Works with assigned Committee to develop tasks and plans for achieving objectives.
- Plan and facilitate logistics for all events, including, guest lists, venue preparation, presentation materials, security, catering, entertainment, transportation, equipment, decor, and marketing materials.
- Serve as the main point of contact for media inquiries, responding to press inquiries and liaise with journalists.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

**To qualify, you will need**:

- A minimum of a Bachelors Degree in Journalism, Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Languages or related discipline.
- A minimum of 5 years of writing and communications management experience with demonstrated success, preferably in the not-for profit or trade association.

**Job Requirements**
- Deep understanding of the media and communications landscape with a track record of generating and copy-editing communications products used in policy-relevant research (i.e. advocacy products, policy briefs, infographics, etc.)
- Proficiency in communications product design, including layout, graphics, and formal/legal requirements.
- Experience in managing and updating content across media platforms, including traditional and social media outlets
- Self-starter who is happy to provide a first draft quickly and to iterate multiple times to perfect a particular communications piece on time.
- Sound judgment to drive communications initiatives, with excellent skills in stakeholder management, networking, and relationship-building.
- Excellent writing, editing, proofreading capabilities and operate under tight deadlines with accuracy and professionalism.
- Good communication skills especially verbal and written English.
- Excellent computer literacy is essential especially in MS Outlook, MS Word and MS Excel.
- Good knowledge of communication principles, practices and tools.
- Profound knowledge of digital communication, social media, online reputation platforms and new media technologies.
- Public relations (PR) knowledge.
- Create and implement a targeted, communication strategy through in-depth understanding of the organisational strategy.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with a diverse constituencies.
- Ability to work independently, handles multiple tasks simultaneously, establish priorities, meet deadlines, and solve problems as they arise.
- Experience of dealing with the media
- Demonstrated successful experience writing press releases, making presentations and negotiating with media.
- Experience overseeing the design and production of print materials and publications.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks and work autonomously under pressure of deadlines.
- Excellent publication skills that include proofreading, copyediting, and knowledge of design/layout.
