Job Position: SQL Database Administrator

Ref: 4655

Location: Johannesburg (Randburg)

Closing date: 29th February 2024

**Salary**: R45 000 to R51 000 per month commensurate with qualification and experience

Qualifications / Requirements:

- Matric
- Bachelors Degree or equivalent IT qualification or Diploma
- Minimum of 3 years in a similar position
- Microsoft training and certifications in data management
- ITIL and CobIT experience

Key Performance Areas:

- Own, track and resolve database related incidents and requests
- Exemplify the desired culture and philosophies of the organisation
- Fulfil requests and resolve incidents within SLA’s
- Review service-related reports (database backups, maintenance, monitoring) on a daily basis to ensure service-related issues are identified and resolved within established SLA’s
- Respond to investigate database related alerts and escalations and work with others within the organisation to come up with strategic solutions to recurring problems
- Backups and restores:

- Regularly review and / or update backup and restore procedure and policy
- Maintain a record of system backup frequencies and backup times
- Perform regular tests of the ability to restore backed up data
- Collaborate with Team Leader: hardware to ensure that backups conform to best practice retention cycles
- Disaster recovery:

- Ensure all critical business systems are replicated at disaster recovery
- Ensure all recovery systems are replicated at discovery recovery, including infrastructure, DB replication and software
- Manage infrastructure DR plan
- Manage DR datacentre availability and stability
- Mange DR connectivity and capacity
- Support one NoSQL technology as a DBA desired
- ITIL change management, problem management, incident management procedures using tools
- Migrating relational / SQL environments to NoSQL environments
- Pro-actively evaluate evolving technologies and recommend solutions to business problems
- Setup, monitoring and troubleshooting popular relational databases
- Troubleshooting and resolve database integrity issues, performance issues, blocking and deadlocking issues, replication issues, log shipping issues, connectivity issues, security issues etc
- Master performance tuning, query optimisation, leveraging appropriate monitoring and troubleshooting tools
- Oracle performance monitoring tools and methods
- Expertise with physical and logical schema design and troubleshoot common issues
- Detect and troubleshoot potential database related issues and constraints
- Index management, integrity checks, configuration, patching
- Strong knowledge of backups, recovery models, database shrink operations, database commands
- Documentation skills for processes and procedures
