**Lead the multi-functional Wine matrix team**
- Senior leadership role and responsibility for the co-ordination of the matrix team in order to design and deliver the category strategy - including product/price/promotion/supplier strategies.
- Line management responsibility for the Buying function within the team.
- Key role player in the creation of a collaborative, open, caring culture within the team, which underpins a high-performance output.

**Commercial accountability**
- Accountability for the departments volume, sales, margin, and gross profit performance against budget.
- Promotional strategy - driving the correct mix to achieve excellent customer value, market leading growth, while achieving margin objectives.
- Collaboration with trade marketing team to execute promotion and product strategy above the line in relevant channels.
- Price management to ensure the delivery of great customer value.
- Maintain processes and systems to ensure price and promo systems accurately reflect supplier agreements.

**Product & supplier strategy**
- Deep understanding of local and international category trends, and ability to interpret them where relevant into opportunities.
- Lead and collaborate with Product Development to create exciting new products or ranges that customers will love, based on trend and category understanding.
- Continue to drive our leading position in own brand wines, while also developing opportunities for exclusive new wines from leading local and international suppliers.
- Pro-actively develop relationships across >100 suppliers in the wine industry, locally and internationally - either directly or indirectly through the Buying structure.
- Drive a culture of active collaboration and respect with our suppliers
- Identify opportunities for existing and new suppliers, aligned with the broader category strategy and the supplier roles
- Ensure suppliers are maintaining all legislative, quality, and business protocols
- Manage suppliers performance and support other business functions where required to ensure underperformance is identified and addressed

**People Development**
- Coach and develop team members in support of their career progression within the business.

**Minimum requirements**
- Passionate Foodie and a Wine enthusiast
- Minimum 8 years relevant experience within the wine industry
- Relevant commercial degree / diploma
- Minimum 5 - 8 years buying / procurement experience in an FMCG environment
- Proven experience in managing a Foods/FMCG department
- Proven sourcing and supplier management experience
- Trading mindset that constantly seeks to improve and refine strategy and customer experience
- Operates with a sense of urgency to execute tactics quickly
- Supplier management to ensure that all suppliers meet business requirements and deliver according to agreed standards
- An understanding of the importance of socio-economic transformation and ability to drives the development/ transformation of our suppliers in line with transformation objectives
- Actively drives mutually beneficial and sustainable supplier strategy to achieve consistent quality through the value chain
- Consistently drives ethical compliance and business operational protocols across the supplier base
- Consistently drives the creation and development of products, services, and experiences that are convenient and innovative for our customers
- Uses brand values and guideline knowledge to drive product development that is aligned with the relevant strategy
- Uses product offering knowledge to make decisions on new products whilst keeping quality in mind
- Defines and documents the project and specifications in order to plan and balance pace, delivery, scope, quality and people components needed to achieve the objectives in an organised and efficient manner
- Has an intermediate understanding of the elements needed to employ project mindset and is able to manage critical path objectives and timelines across multiple projects
