Draughtsman / Nesting

The Big Picture:
Howden Power, a Division of Howden Africa (Pty) Ltd is looking for a Draughtsman to generate nestings efficiently for the ESAB profiling machine by creating shapes from drawings, adding bevels, maintaining accurate steel stock in Columbus.

What needs to be done?
- Nesting to be done within reasonable time to ensure delivery dates are met by production
- Perform nesting layouts for optimum use of steel plate & ensure material wastage is minimised
- Ensure reduction in grinding by adding Bevels to the cutting programs
- Load new plates into Columbus with correct ID and Cast numbers
- Maintain steel stock accuracy in Columbus and do frequent reconciliation with AX to ensure stock material has been booked out correctly to Production Jobs
- Continually improve the nesting process and ensure reduction in Manufacturing hours
- Liaise with Plasma Operator on any machine and material issues
- Measure-up components or layouts & produce detailed drawings for implementation in production
- Analyse production orders to ensure the project engineers’ requirements are accurately interpreted before starting work
- Produce detailed design drawings of components to ensure the necessary manufacturing details can be interpreted. Produce arrangement drawings which include various components as drawn in 2 above to ensure parts fit together
- Enter all new drawings into the network soft-copy filing system to ensure they are readily recoverable
- Produce Works Data Packages (WDP’s) to identify individual components/parts lists etc. & their respective drawings
- Check drawings made by others for dimensional accuracy & compatibility of parts & to ensure errors are not carried through to production. Up-date existing drawings to ensure design revisions are captured
- Comply with Howden Power standard drawing office practice to ensure uniformity of drawings
- Drawings & WDP’s are produced within the agreed timeframe to avoid delays in the progress of the job
- Man-hours are recorded on timesheets to ensure recoveries are allocated to the correct job numbers
- SOX Compliance: Adhere to Sarbanes Oxley and AX controls
- Maintain Item Master in AX ERP System

What do you need to bring?
- Grade 12/ Matric
- Formal Drafting qualification
- 3 years experience in a workshop environment to understand the products.
- 3 years drawing office experience with experience in tolerances, limits and fits, welding symbols and surface finishes.
- Proficient with AutoCAD/ Inventor
- Experience with Columbus software
- Understand quality assurance management systems.
- CNC Nesting
- Proficient in MS Office
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
