SENIOR IT LABORATORY ADMINISTRATOR

JOB PURPOSE:
The position will manage service delivery and availability of student computing laboratories at the University of Pretoria campuses. Management of staff members in the team. Responsible for quality control and capacity planning to ensure continued service delivery of computer facilities to all relevant stakeholders. Ensure that the IT protocols and procedures are in place to operate the laboratories. Ensure compliance with policy, legislation and protocols.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Service delivery:

- Monitor all systems to ensure availability of facilities to clients as per agreed service level agreements (SLA);
- Liaise with relevant stakeholders to ensure continuity and compatibility of computer systems;
- Human Resources management:

- Team management in line with the university’s HR policies and procedures;
- Facilities and operational management:

- Monitor and capacity plan for operational activities in the facilities/laboratories/environment;
- Analyse the environment to consider future development;
- Schedule laboratories/resources as required;
- Liaise with relevant stakeholders to plan all laboratory scheduling as published;
- Compile and submit reports;
- Computer based testing (CBT):

- Identify requirements for the CBT environment and schedule the use of the laboratories;
- Liaise regularly with relevant stakeholders to implement revised policies and procedures;
- Ensure that industry standards are maintained;
- Projects:

- Contribute to projects;
- Implement project outputs as identified.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

- Bachelors / BTech degree in IT; with
- A total of four years’ experience in/as:

- Computer laboratory supervisor responsible for maintaining computing facilities comprising 200+ computers;
- Supervision of staff;
- Maintaining complex environments, servicing multiple clients and schedules;
- Supporting the facilitation of computer-based lecturing and computer-based courses presented in a laboratory environment;
- Helpdesk supervision;
- Computer laboratory implementation (Computer hardware replacements, budgeting, scheduling, quality control, planning and implementation of new facilities, capacity planning);
- Conducting and managing electronic assessments;
- Managing and maintaining a computer laboratory at a higher education facility;
- Valid driver’s license;
- Completed training courses in management, project management, and customer service;
- IT related technical certifications (Including: A+ / N+ / Microsoft / Programming / Linux / ITIL);
OR
- A three-year National Diploma in IT; with
- A total of six years’ experience in:

- Computer laboratory supervisor responsible for maintaining computing facilities comprising 200+ computers;
- Supervision of staff;
- Maintaining complex environments, servicing multiple clients and schedules;
- Supporting the facilitation of computer-based lecturing and computer-based courses presented in a laboratory environment;
- Helpdesk supervision;
- Computer laboratory implementation (Computer hardware replacements, budgeting, scheduling, quality control, planning and implementation of new facilities, capacity planning);
- Conducting and managing electronic assessments;
- Managing and maintaining a computer laboratory at a higher education facility;

- Planning usage and capacity of a facility;
- Technical competencies:

- Project coordination;
- Hardware maintenance and software installations and maintenance;
- Programming ability;
- Image casting methods;
- Microsoft Active Directory;
- Servers and networks; Linux (working knowledge);
- Windows desktop operating systems;
- Microsoft Office and Google Suite;
- Laboratory maintenance systems;
- Behavioural competencies:

- Ability to:

- Liaise with clients and resolve conflict;
- Manage service-level agreements;
- Balance client needs with technology capabilities;
- Strong conflict management skills;
- Communication skills in both vertical and horizontal hierarchy;
- Effective team leadership skills;
- Strong language skills (written and spoken);
