The role would involve overseeing the movement and transportation of coal from the mining site to various destinations such as power plants, industrial facilities, or export terminals. The primary focus would be on ensuring the timely and efficient transportation of coal while managing costs, complying with regulations, and optimizing the overall supply chain. The contract is valid from 6-12 months
- Transportation Planning: You would plan and optimize the transportation routes for coal, considering factors such as distance, cost, and efficiency. This involves working closely with transportation providers, such as trucking companies, railroads, and shipping firms, to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery.
- Inventory Management: You would monitor coal inventory levels and develop strategies to maintain an adequate supply while minimizing excess or shortage. This involves forecasting demand, coordinating with sales teams or customers, and implementing inventory control measures.
- Fleet Management: If the coal is transported using a company-owned fleet, you would manage the fleet operations. This includes scheduling maintenance and repairs, tracking fuel consumption, optimizing routes, and ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
- Documentation and Compliance: You would handle the necessary paperwork, such as permits, licenses, customs documentation, and regulatory compliance related to coal transportation. This ensures legal and regulatory requirements are met at all stages of the logistics process.
- Risk Management: You would identify and mitigate potential risks in the logistics operations, such as delays, accidents, or disruptions. This involves developing contingency plans, monitoring weather conditions or other external factors, and implementing safety protocols.
- Cost Control and Budgeting: As a logistics manager, you would be responsible for controlling costs and optimizing the budget related to transportation and logistics activities. This includes negotiating contracts with transportation providers, identifying cost-saving opportunities, and analyzing expenses.
- Team Management: If you have a team working under you, you would oversee their activities, assign tasks, provide guidance, and evaluate performance. Effective communication and coordination with various stakeholders, such as miners, drivers, and other departments, are essential for smooth operations.
- Continuous Improvement: You would actively seek opportunities to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the logistics processes. This involves analyzing data, identifying areas for optimization, implementing new technologies or systems, and staying updated with industry trends and best practices.
- Knowledge and understanding of quality systems, environmental, health and safety regulations, expediting techniques
- Ensure adherence to procedures pertaining to loading and offloading
- Conduct diesel level management and monitoring, schedule deliveries, liaise with providers and ensure optimal usage
- Management of the Distribution department while maintaining efficiencies, Quality and cost control
- Scheduling of dispatch with transport contractors in collaboration with clients
- Implementing and maintaining and reporting on KPI standards
- Assisting with Budgets and Monthly expenses
- Project management knowledge with proven managerial skills
- Develop and implement logistics strategies to optimize efficiency and cost-effectiveness
- Manage and oversee the transportation of coal
- Coordinate with suppliers, carriers, and customs brokers to ensure compliance with regulations
- Monitor inventory levels and adjust logistics processes accordingly
- Analyze logistics data and KPIs to identify areas for improvement
- Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including customers, suppliers, and service providers
- Ensure compliance with safety and security protocols
- Manage a full staff compliment of employees including Supervisor and Controllers.
- Planning, organizing, and executing all deliveries, receipts and dispatch of coal
- Efficient Routing and scheduling of daily loads
- Report writing and presentations

**Requirements**:

- Matric/ Grade 12
- Qualification in Logistics Management or equivalent qualification will be an advantage
- Minimum 5 years in a managerial position in Logistics and Supply Chain processing
- 5+ years’ experience in a with coal industry experience
- Knowledge of logistics and supply chain management and equipment within a mining operation.
