***Role Objectives**:
A stimulating opportunity has become available for a driven, enthusiastic, resourceful and technically minded individual to work as part of a small team of a team of actuaries and data scientists tasked with the development and implementation of rating structures and monitoring reports contributing towards growth, efficiency, and sustainability of objectives of the Company.

This role will provide wide exposure across the range of commercial and specialised product pricing and portfolio management activities together with variety in work through interactions across the business products giving the successful applicant exposure to a wide variety of products
- an ideal opportunity to widen horizons.

**Key Responsibilities**:
The role will support the dynamic Commercial and Specialist Lines Pricing team with:
Pricing
- Assist with the design and deployment of new and existing rating structures in line with the product development control cycle for products including but not limited to:

- Commercial Lines
- Specialist Lines
- Risk Finance
- Inwards Reinsurance
- Assist in the development of initiatives to return poor performing brokers or books to profitability.
- Providing guidance and direction to the data acquisition team to ensure they acquire the correct data for the pricing function.
- Manage adhoc tasks and duties to enable and improve own deliverables and tasks as well as to manage stakeholder expectations Ensure that all actuarial processes are performed as efficiently as possible and are compliant with the current risk control environment and actuarial governance procedures.
- Liaise with Corporate Actuarial teams to optimise the cost of capital which needs to be allowed for in pricing.

Monitoring
- Monitoring of portfolio performance and adequacy of pricing models.
- Regular reporting to, and engagement with senior business leaders to provide technical input and commentary on product performance and pricing.

Reinsurance Optimisation
- Collaborating with Reinsurance to assess, develop and distribute solutions around efficient reinsurance purchase.
- Liaise with Corporate Actuarial teams to optimise cost of capital which needs to be allowed for in pricing.

**Required Knowledge and Experience**:

- 2 - 6 years of actuarial experience in insurance industry in any of the following fields (Pricing, Data Management & Manipulation, Valuations, Solvency Management, Capital Management)
- Experience in short-term insurance would be an advantage but not essential
- Strong business acumen and a good understanding of insurance business
- Good understanding of key actuarial concepts, talking points and principles within the insurance sphere
- SAM knowledge & Reinsurance experience is advantageous but not essential.
- Strong technical and analytical skills
- Statistical software experience would be an advantage
- Data manipulation - SQL, Advanced Microsoft Office.
- Programming aptitude advantageous, but not essential - e.g. VBA, Python, R

**Educational Requirements**:

- Bachelor’s degree in actuarial science or other related degrees
- Progress in completing CT’s (3 - 7 CT’s preferred)
- Studying towards becoming a Qualified Actuary in the Short-Term Industry
- Member of the Actuarial Society of South Africa
