We are looking for a **Lead Estimator in our Johannesburg Office** who is self-motivated and driven by the goal of establishing Turner & Townsend as the #1 Consultancy. Reporting to the head of the business unit the individual will be responsible for delivering projects, securing new and maintaining existing clients and promoting the values of Turner & Townsend.

As Lead Estimator you will join our mining unit to provide services that help our clients devise strategies to deliver successful business solutions prior to sanction, achieve confidence around project delivery, ensure projects are effectively managed & controlled and facilitate the capture and transfer of knowledge.

**Job Description**:
**Duties of an Estimator**
- Develop a thorough understanding of client requirements by engaging with client’s Executive Leadership, project teams & other stakeholders to establish key requirements and define strategy & goals for a standardized estimate. This will include fleshing out WBS requirements necessary for appropriate cost control, change management, benchmarking, and cost & schedule alignment.
- Lead the development & implementation of standardized estimating processes across the program. This will include establishing budget guidelines & estimate requirements for each stage of the project lifecycle and participating in cost estimate stage gate reviews.
- Drive establishment on new projects at the earliest design phases (pre-conceptual or earlier) to ensure compliance with the program controls and KPI strategy as defined by Executive Leadership.
- Liaise with project teams to ensure each project’s change management & schedule management is aligned with the standardized WBS & estimating processes.
- Liaise with project teams to conduct ongoing cost analysis for projects in execution to refine benchmarking & improve forecasting. This will include data mining, data cleansing & validation, variance analysis, & data visualization.
- Review detailed estimates from construction contractors and material and equipment suppliers at various stages of the design maturity & provide recommendations to Executive Leadership.
- Assist in the development of high-level conceptual ROM estimates (prior to contractor engagement) to support early mining & mineral processing planning efforts.
- Client deliverables will include but not be limited to an estimate plan, a basis of estimate, an estimate to the required level of detail dependent upon the estimate class, cash flows, escalation forecasts and all estimate supporting documentation.
- Lead resource management for cost estimating requirements across the program.
- Lead training for project teams on cost estimating processes, tools & techniques.
- Develop & maintain a library of templates, best practice standards & procedures for all estimating activities for the project teams. Maintain the program benchmarking database & all project coding structures
- Support Executive Leadership with ad-hoc cost performance studies, labour rates assessments, market analysis, and other Estimating/ Project Controls related functions as directed by the Project Controls Leadership.

**Qualifications**:
**Qualifications & Experience**
- 10 years of experience working in cost estimating in the mining & mineral processing industry.
- Undergraduate or graduate degree in engineering, construction, or quantity surveying field. Required to be affiliated to a professional body.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (particularly, Microsoft Excel).
- Experience working with a variety of cost estimating tools including CCS Candy.
- Working knowledge of Tableau or other BI tools is preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, especially with regard to reports & presentations.
- Team player with demonstrated professional & interpersonal skills interfacing with all levels of the organization, clients & vendors.
- Detail-oriented & action-oriented with excellent organization skills & demonstrated ability to multitask.
- Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines and quickly pivot in response to evolving priorities.
