Mechanical knowledge forms a core part of the renewable energy industry as it applies to construction, generation systems and mechanical or maintenance work and as such the mechanical trainer will be responsible for conveying knowledge and experience by means of conducting lectures in the mechanical elements of renewable energies, while continually assessing the progress of trainees via formative, summative and practical assessments.
- Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience- National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering with mechanical trade certificate and coupled with 5+ years or more technical trade experience. A Bachelor degree will be an added advantage.
- or Qualified Mechanical Artisan (Fitter and Turner, Millwright, Motor Mechanic or similar level) with5+ years or more experience in mechanical trades, such as (Fitter and Turner, Millwright, Motor Mechanic or similar (preferred).
- Recommended: Qualified Facilitator, Assessor and Moderator certificates.
- Recommended: Experience in Renewable Energy.
- Recommended: Vocation Training and/or educational experience.
- Recommended: SETA processes and audit experience.
- Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities- Conduct lectures in the field of mechanical engineering (i.e., hydraulics) at SARETEC premises and any other client premises as and when necessary.
- Ensure that all equipment for training is installed, maintained and available for use in training.
- Ensure that sufficient mechanical spares and consumables are kept in stores.
- Monitor training needs and gaps for individuals and groups and makes recommendations for solutions to bridge the gaps including assessment in relation to Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).
- Manage maintenance schedules of the mechanical equipment.
- Promotes health and safety awareness and standards.
- Maintain records of trainees’ portfolios of competencies, training records and provide training support,
- Establish and maintain contacts with external training providers and service partners.
- Assist in development of standard operating procedures, policy and practice regard training and development.
- Upkeep of ISO 9001 system in terms of processes and conformance.
- Conduct stock takes of mechanical equipment, components, and consumables.
- Design lists for the issuing of test equipment and components.
- Always manage housekeeping of laboratories and workshops.
- Maintaining equipment inventory registry applicable to training area.
- Prepare technical specifications for supply chain management to source quotations for all technical equipment.
- Initiate the process for the ordering of technical, components and spares as and when necessary and in compliance with all internal procedures.
- Ensuring that all relevant paperwork is submitted to the Operations Manager for Quality Assurance and sign off including SARETEC finance.
- Deliver assigned courses to trainees by conducting competency based, classroom and workshop lessons to impart knowledge and skills to the standards required.
- Develop Mechanical course materials by producing materials (preparing course books, workbooks, teaching aids, practical facilities etc.) to ensure the quality of training being delivered Develop various types of assessment tools by preparing tests, assignments, practical exercises, checklists, projects, etc. to assess competency.
- Identify material/equipment required for mechanical courses, by analyzing course contents and preparing procurement orders to ensure effective course delivery.
- Continually assess and moderate the progress of the trainees.
- Assist in the development of the elements of courses.
- Assist in the development of the elements of courses.
- Designing fixtures & jigs for laboratory sessions.
