**_ Position Purpose:_**

To ensure the Transnet Group activities in developing, reviewing and implementing best practice environmental

management, policies, strategies, programmes, systems and standards, taking into account the changing legislation, such as

National Environmental Management Act, National Water Act, Air Quality Act, ISO14001 in order to achieve environmental

compliance.

**_ Position outputs:_**

1. Facilitate the development and implementation of Transnet Environmental Strategy

2. Develop, review and implement Environmental Management programmes, standards and relevant systems and ensure

that these adequately provide for the Group’s compliance with all relevant laws, regulations and codes.
3. Develop and drive strategies that provide the most innovative, reliable and cost effective solutions to environmental related

matters in order to meet Transnet’s sustainability goals and expectations.
4. Manage environmental risk through the identification and evaluation of the potential or actual impact of the Operating

Divisions activities and develop appropriate mitigating programmes.

5. Identify potential historical and current environmental liabilities and ensure that these are adequately dealt with.

6. Develop and drive environmental compliance initiatives and projects that range in both size and complexity aligned to

environmental regulatory requirements and best practices.

7. In collaboration with Operating Divisions and Group Functions guide and direct: Water Strategies: Waste Strategies:
Biodiversity Strategies: Green Supply Chain Strategies: Air Quality Management Strategies: Environmental Management

Systems Strategies.

8. Continuously research and stay abreast of current environmental regulatory requirements, technical innovations, and

9. Co-ordinate the gathering of data, analysis and interpretation for the reporting of environmental performance, ensuring

timely and accurate data is provided from the Transnet Operating Divisions and other Functions.

10. Liaise with internal stakeholders (in Operating Divisions and Specialist Units) to ensure their constructive participation in

implementing initiatives.

11. Assess risk exposure related to natural resource utilisation with respect to business continuity

12. Analysis of natural resource data and design of improvement initiatives.

13. Promote and raise awareness at all levels of the Company of the impact of emerging environmental issues, whether

legislative or best practice.

14. Ensure that natural resource response initiatives influence positively on Transnet’s business, operational efficiency,
investment decisions and reputational capital.

15. Engage with government and industry on air quality, biodiversity, waste, water, environmental incidents and land

management policy.

16. Design and drive the necessary systems to ensure compliance to applicable legislation and company policy.

**_ Qualifications & Experience:_**

1. An appropriate B Degree in Environmental Science/Management is required.
2. A minimum of 10 years working experience in the fields of Environmental compliance/risk or Sustainability in companies
of a similar size and complexity to Transnet is required.
3. Trust and honesty in the handling of Finances as per the National Credit Act Amendment 19
Legislative Certification/Registration required (e.g. Professional Engineer):
