**_ Position Purpose:_**

To provide technical environmental and sustainability support in all engineering, infrastructure and special projects that

require environmental authorisations, strategic environmental assessment and environmental technical support to all ports,

investigate, and implement best practices to achieve sustainable environmental management in the organisation.

**_ Position outputs:_**

Provide quantitative and qualitative strategic environmental assessments of all projects leading and facilitating the required

course of action.

Coordinate/initiate Strategic Environmental Assessments (SEAs) and ensure outcomes forms inputs into TNPA Infrastructure

development planning process;
Develop terms of reference for environmental impact studies, specialist studies and monitoring programmes.

Review governance Environmental Management Framework (EMF) and ensures that EMF issues are proactively

incorporated into strategic environmental management at all Ports.

Investigate technical solutions and/or best practice in terms of waste management, marine environment, air quality

management, resource management and sustainability solutions.

Research and develop environmental best practice initiatives to comply and/or be in line with domestic and international

protocols, Transnet strategies, policies, and strategic objectives.

Develop and implement education and training environmental and sustainability awareness training programmes for best

practices and/or new practice to improve the company performance.

Work close with Ports to ensure that the correct specialist studies are identified, and competency conducted by the appointed

Environmental Assessment Practitioner (EAP) for all Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) projects.

Monitor compliance with Environmental Authorisation (EA) requirements, license/permits for all projects during and post

projects implementation.

Liaise with relevant competent authorities and stakeholders about environmental applicable legislations and other

requirements for project delivery.

Review and interpret specialist reports (Air quality, Terrestrial, Waste, Noise, Marine & sediment, groundwater contamination,

etc.) to ensure best practice for project development and Port operations.

Provide input to new and/or amendments to current legislation, regulations and polices applicable to the Ports.

Monitor the expenditure per project against budget and ensure compliance within the budgetary restrictions.

Support the development of the project business case through embedding comparative evaluation methodologies to inform

upstream risk management and decision making.

**_ Qualifications & Experience:_**

Tertiary Qualification
Degree in Environmental Sciences or equivalent
Professional registration with South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions (SACNSP) would be an added
advantage.

Relevant Experience
Minimum of 5 - 8 years in the Environmental Management field
Advanced experience in programme managing EIA and projects
Applicable legislation in the Environmental field
Ports environment management/life sciences
