Medical Technician

Under the supervision of a registered Medical Technologist carrying out the normal duties and functions which occur within a professional laboratory service. These duties and functions include, interalia:
- Responsible for the daily routine work in the Histology Laboratory in order to achieve an efficient and cost effective service.
- Record temperature of the room and fridges, with corrective actions when required.
- Maintenance on all equipment used for analysis - ensuring all controls and calibrations are done on all relevant equipment.
- Decontamination of all equipment and bench tops.
- Ensure processing of samples received from various sites:

- Reagent preparation when necessary.
- Troubleshooting in order to prevent serious or unacceptable incidents involving specimen samples.
- Report all malfunctions to the laboratory manager.
- Ensure that relevant protocols are followed.
- To participate and assist in laboratory projects.
- Assist in performing tasks in all the laboratory sections under the supervision of a registered medical technologist/technician.

**Requirements**:

- 5 years experience
- National Diploma in Medical Technology or Biomedical Technology or Bachelor of Health Sciences: Biomedical Technology
- HPCSA registration (clinical pathology)
- Perform sampling and analysis of human and environmental samples
- Preparation of samples for examination
- Knowledge for the usage of specialised instrumentation
- Accurate interpretation of results
- Establish and monitor programmes that ensure data accuracy
- Accuracy and organisational skills
- Attention to detail and strive for an error free standard
- Ability to identify problems and troubleshoot
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Communication Skills (Verbal, written & presentation)
- Computer Literacy
- Time management and evaluation Skills
- Able to accommodate overtime requirements to deliver timeous and accurate results
