My client a leading and well-known company in Saldanha on the West Coast, requires a competent and experienced Diesel Fitter to join their team.

**PURPOSE**:
To be responsible for diesel fitting activities pertaining to the extraction, maintenance, manufacturing, and installation within the fleet and shore operations, as well as overseeing of contractors, subordinates, and resources.

**REQUIREMENTS AND COMPETENCIES**:

- Qualified Diesel Fitter with a Trade Certificate.
- Minimum of 7-10 years of experience within a diesel fitter capacity preferably within the marine industry.
- Excellent communication skills both verbally and in writing, on a supervisory level.
- Ability to maintain good interpersonal skills.
- Must have an analytical mindset and the ability to understand technical documentation such as design blueprints and instructional manuals.
- Ability to supervise systems and processes
- Sound knowledge of combustion, compression and other industry related testing procedures, hydraulic and pneumatic systems and the repair and maintenance thereof.
- Ability to implement and maintain safety and hygiene standards
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to function independently in decision making and analyze self-performance constructively.
- SA Citizens only
- Must be Criminal Clear
- Must reside in Saldanha/Vredenburg/langebaan or be willing to relocate

**OUTPUTS & MEASUREMENTS**:
Ensure that all diesel fitting functions are carried out by maintaining vessels in accordance with the vessels blueprints, making use of hand tools, correct trade techniques and shop machinery.

Operate all mechanical and electrical apparatuses and equipment when required.

Ensure that shop machinery operates in accordance with safety regulations.

Accurately set tappets in accordance with companys standards, engine specifications and guidelines.

Conduct efficient problem-solving exercises to address malfunctions of the engine and identify and report the cause of the malfunctions to the Foreman.

Ensure compliance of all safety and hygiene standards and procedures, and report findings of incidents to the Foreman.

Provide corrective action of deficiencies during maintenance, installation, and production projects.

Manage and record stock of all raw materials used during fitting processes and report on variances.

Monitor material costs, tool repairs cost of the fitting department.

Supervise in conjunction with the Foreman, all jobs carried out are of the highest quality and are above company standards.

Ensure hygiene and housekeeping procedures are adhered to.

Ensure discipline is always maintained in the department.

Promote and support a holistic working environment within the department.
