**Dean of Faculty: Business and Management Science**
The Dean of Faculty is the executive head of the group of programmes allocated to the Faculty and as academic leader, is accountable for the strategic positioning and pursuit of strategic goals as derived from the Strategic and Business Plans of the Institution.
The Dean of Faculty is ultimately accountable for the regulatory compliance, academic delivery across cites, and responsible for the rollout of all academic programmes allocated to her Faculty.
This will include accreditation, reaccreditation, review, delivery, assessment, and audit, managing heads of departments, lecturers, quality assurance of curriculum and marks processes as well as performance management.
**The exercise of leadership and managerial responsibility includes the following areas**:
- Positioning the Programme and the Institution within the national education policy & regulatory environment and quality assurance.
- Teaching for learning.
- Research, innovation and commercialisation, relationship building.
- Community Engagement activities, by aligning them with the Integrated Quality Management
Framework (IQMF).
- Achieving the academic and financial targets of the Department as determined in the annual strategic plan and budgets, as supplied by the CAO and GCAO.
- Promoting the Faculty locally and regionally and maintaining its viability.
- Ensuring the capacity development and quality promotion in respect of academic staff and learners.
- Authority to appoint replacement positions and the promotion of staff.
- Establishment of partnerships with business, governments, academic and societal Institutions and Non-Profit Organisations (NPOs) for the creation of Work Integrated Learning opportunities.
- Ensuring that appropriate improvement plans developed through institutional or ETQA processes are implemented and progress reported monthly.
- Work collaboratively with other deans of the institution to embed standardised institutional practices a promote a cross-disciplinary research community.
**Academic Programmes**
- Overall planning, development, renewal, and review of Academic Programmes allocated to the faculty.
- Ensuring meaningful programme outcomes, quality, effectiveness, and financial viability.
- Responsible for implementation of the teaching and learning policy and strategy of the institute within the faculty.
- Approval of workload models at campuses offering programmes allocated to the faculty.
- Ensuring, on a weekly basis, that the programme managers and departmental heads are complying with the academic rollout of the programmes in the faculty.
- Ensuring that the existing Academic Programmes are in line with CHE requirements, and new
Academic Programmes are designed for CHE Accreditation.
- Induction of new students and providing orientation regarding the activities of the faculty.
- Optimizing student access, success, throughput rates and grant credit exemption per programme within the faculty.
- Retaining returning students in accordance with the enrolment planning objectives of the
Institution.
- Ensure academic calendar is adhered to by all campuses.
- To provide leadership in programme roll out so that parity and uniformity is adhered at all campuses.
- Provide guidance in ensuring the programme outcomes are adhered to.
- To ensure that class visits and lecturer evaluation is taking place at campuses.
- To review and ensure that assessment, timetabling, exam processing and verification, etc. are in line with our organisational assessment policies and procedures.
- Ensure the Learner performance for the programme is tracked, analysed and effective intervention strategies are provided to improve the areas of weak performance.
- To engage in research activities that enhances the depth of academic deliverables in the programme.
- To prepare the Documents that are prescribed by the Curriculum Innovation, Design &
Development (CIDD) process for the programme.
- Ensuring that the programme curriculum, rollout, and syllabus are consistently and timeously provided to all the campuses that are offering the programme.
- Ensuring the library provisioning for the programme is adequate at every campus.
- Ensure that the Departmental heads are providing the literature and assessment instruments as per the SAQA level descriptors and aligned to the outcomes of the programme.
- Ensure the exam verification process for the programme takes place as per the organisational assessment strategy.
- Establish a collaborative research culture in the faculty.
**Administration / Staff / Campus**
- Obtaining the necessary approval of the CAO and GCAO prior to dealing with regulatory agencies.
- Shared approval with CAO and GCAO with regards to staffing forecast - both long and short term - for each programme allocated to the faculty.
