**Job description**
- The Centre for Student Health and Wellness division in the Registrar’s portfolio with Primary Healthcare (PHC) Service being provided to students. The department is a nurse-managed facility with a medical practitioner attending to patients on a sessional basis. All nurses are PHC trained, with a dispensing license.
- The incumbent will provide comprehensive health and wellness services to students within the university environment. A fully functional PHC service is available on all four campuses offering the following services: Primary Health Care, HIV Counselling and Testing (HCT), Reproductive Health Care, Travel Health, health promotion, monitoring of chronic medical conditions, provision of medical support to sports events and vaccination programmes to specific students. Interaction with students occurs even outside of the clinic environment with activation programmes and awareness campaigns.

**Responsibilities**:

- The Practitioner II: Primary Health Care Nurse is responsible for the promotion of excellence in the provision of a healthy lifestyle within the Centre for Student Health and Wellness. His/her duties include the following:

- Provision of comprehensive Primary Health Care package to all clients daily.
- Working closely with the Medical Doctor to provide optimum healthcare.
- Ensuring good Pharmacy Practice.
- Management of stock controls for equipment and medical supplies
- Providing youth-friendly services daily in the facility.
- Sustain quality assurance throughout the clinic activities.
- Providing a caring environment for the patients and clients.
- Ensuring adherence to proper waste disposal techniques.
- Ensuring adherence to universal principles of infection control.
- Managing the performance, training, and supervising a team of administrators and counsellors who are responsible for day-to-day activities.
- Ensuring full compliance with all policies and procedures relevant to the health facility consistently.
- Ensuring staff and processes work effectively in accordance with agreed Service Level Agreements.
- Ensuring compliance of all staff to procurement policies and procedures.
- Controlling & implementing the departmental operational budget.
- Provision and supervision of health promotion.
- Management of the SRH&R services.
- Provision of HAST services including NIMART.

**Minimum requirements**

**Qualifications**:

- NQF 7 Diploma/Degree: General Nursing, Community Health, Psychiatric Nursing and Midwifery.
- Advanced Diploma in Clinical Nursing Science, Health Assessment, Treatment and Care.
- Dispensing Licence.

**Experience**:

- Proven experience in General Nursing and Primary Health Care Nursing in a Public and/or Private sector.
- Proven experience in management of a Primary Health Care unit; including supervision over staff.
- Extensive experience as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.
- HIV/AIDS and ART management experience.
- Health Promotion experience.
- Reproductive health experience, including the latest developments in Family Planning methods.

**Knowledge**:

- Good knowledge of legislation related to PHC.
- Clinical principles in the management of minor ailments.
- Good pharmacy practice.
- Basic counselling skills.
- Conflict management.

**Other**:

- Traveling between campuses is included in the departmental activities.
- Be in possession of a valid driver’s license.
- Working outside normal working hours may be necessary to implement some of the outreach initiatives.
