**The Company**
Our client is one of the world’s largest producers and marketers of copper, with mining operations and development projects in key mining regions of Africa, Australia and America. They operate on a large-scale copper and cobalt deposits, both open pit and underground, with high-grade mineral reserves.

**The Role**
The primary purpose of the Engineering Lead role is to provide technical leadership and oversight for engineering activities. The Engineering Lead is responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient execution of engineering projects, optimizing operational processes, and providing technical guidance to support our mining activities.
The position will be based in Johannesburg South Africa, with regular travel to the DRC.

**Responsibilities**
- Lead and oversee engineering projects, ensuring adherence to project specifications, quality standards, and safety regulations.
- Provide technical guidance and support to engineering teams, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement engineering strategies aligned with organizational goals.
- Ensure compliance with relevant mining regulations and industry best practices.
- Project management skills, including planning, execution, and monitoring.
- Analyse and interpret technical data and make informed decisions.
- Lead and manage engineering projects successfully.
- Provide mentorship to engineering teams.
- Proactive approach to identifying and implementing engineering improvements.

**The Requirements**
- Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering or a related field. A master’s degree is advantageous.
- 8-10 years of experience in mining engineering, with progressive levels of responsibility.
- Proven track record in leading and managing engineering projects within the mining industry.
- Experience in copper mining industry
- Strong understanding of mining operations, including planning, design, and optimization.
- Familiarity with relevant mining software and technologies. (Deswik)
- Proficient in mining engineering principles, practices, and standards.
- Strong technical knowledge of mining equipment, systems, and processes.
- Effective leadership and team management abilities to motivate and guide engineering teams.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with stakeholders at all levels.
- Proficiency in relevant mining software and tools for data analysis and modelling.
- Strong safety mindset and commitment to promoting a safe working environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills to address engineering challenges and find innovative solutions.
- Effective communication and collaboration with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
