- Produce newsworthy stories that are well researched, accurate, balanced and well written and ready for publication across multiple editorial platforms.
- Have excellent writing skills and the ability to write hard news, features and well as human interest stories.
- Establish a strong network of contacts.
- Use social media to drive readership.
- Produce pictures, audio and or videos for the Northern News online platforms and those of its sister titles.
- Use social media to break news and engage with online audience.
- Generate ideas for unique story packages and community focus and reader engagement.
- Manage a personal diary and initiate stories.
- Meet the deadline demands of the title.
- Any other function as and when required.

**Requirements**:

- Must have a tertiary qualification in journalism or equivalent.
- Three years proven journalistic experience, including writing and sub-editing in English, photography and layout.
- Excellent command of English.
- Must be familiar with the communities covered by the paper and have a wide range of contacts there.
- ** Must have a valid drivers licence.**:

- Have excellent interpersonal skills in dealing with high-level contacts.
- Must be able to think creatively and be a self-starter who shows initiative and ability can independently.
- Be highly flexible, sometimes having to working long, irregular hours, nightshift, weekends and public holidays.
- The ability to work under pressure.
