**Responsibilities**:

- Participate in developing, establishing and enforcing relevant Codes of Practice, standards, procedures, procedures pertaining to fire team management, Issue Based Risk Assessments and managing instructions.
- Participate in the Occupational Health Section in establishing and managing occupational health programmes.
- Compile sampling and workload schedules according to legal requirements.
- Ensure the monitoring and assessment of compliance to the occupational hygiene and ventilation programme by complying to the schedules.
- Provide input into the departmental budget and manage the budget for the area of responsibility.
- Responsible for the generation of cost saving ideas.
- Provide Occupational Hygiene expertise and skills to the operation; advising on Occupational Hygiene solutions to enhance or ensure the effectiveness of the operation.
- Ensure capacity and bench strength of functional talent pool by coordinating, directing and leading Occupational Hygiene talent in area of responsibility.
- Drive the mine emergency preparedness programme.
- Engage internal and external stakeholders on Occupational Hygiene related matters and support the operation on Occupational Hygiene related engagement.
- Establish and maintain good working relationships and an effective / sound communication system with the operation.
- Ensure that all Occupational Hygiene reporting is aligned with standards, guidelines and schedules.
- Monitor and evaluate performance against established strategies, frameworks, systems and programme, and identify and advise on opportunities for improvement to provide assurance to the Manager: Health, Safety, Environment & Quality and Occupational Health and Hygiene Lead.
- Establish programmes for water sample collection and biological monitoring, evaluate programmes, enforce standards pertaining to these programmes and write reports to meet set deadlines. Assist in fall out dust monitoring.
- Draft safe declarations (Blasting Schedule) and monitor Blasting re-entries exposures to ensure compliance to the re-entry periods.
- Participate in a sustainable process to identify, assess and rank Occupational Hygiene risk as these relate to the operation, in order to promote an Occupational Hygiene and risk-aware culture, ensure that any potential impact is understood, and facilitate effective decision making, Occupational Hygiene risk mitigation and provide this as input into the ERM program.
- Evaluate occupational hygiene and ventilation inspection results, recommend mitigation controls and compile reports.
- Participate in investigating occupational diseases and supplying historical exposure results.
- Contribute to the identification, analysis and interpretation of Occupational Hygiene risks within the operation and contribute to the design and implementing of strategies and systems to mitigate risk and to prevent and reduce loss of the operation's assets. Provide this as input into the ERM program.
- Ensure Requisite Management Leadership practices.
- Drive organizational values that affect Company’s relationship with its employees.

**Must have**:

- Leadership Development Programme (LDP) or equivalent.
- Professional Membership with the South African Institute of Occupational Hygiene.
- Mine Ventilation Society of SA Membership.
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a mine ventilation and hygiene environment of which 2 years are supervisory / managerial experience.
- Knowledge of OHSAS 18001 / ISO 45001.
- Advanced knowledge of the Mine Health and Safety Act.
- Advanced knowledge of Ventsim software.
- Computer Literacy and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Valid drivers’ license

**Technical Competencies**:

- Collect information required for compiling necessary reports.
- Use the available resources and material to facilitate Occupational Hygiene training.
- Scrutinise and make recommendations of all reports before submission to the occupational hygienist.
- Identify all applicable areas to be surveyed as well as the identification of the environmental risks example air born pollutants.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of the Occupational Hygiene management programme.
- Monitor compliance and update schedule progress.
- Interpret data and convert data into information.
- Incident investigations e.g., Overexposures, NIHL, TB etc.

**Experience**:

- OHSAS 18001 / ISaO 45001: 2 years (preferred)
- mine ventilation and hygiene: 5 years (preferred)

License/Certification:

- Certificate COM Mine Environmental Control Advanced (required)
- Professional Membership with the SA Institute (required)
