Mechanical Workshop Manager

A Plant Hire company on the West Rand is looking for an experienced Workshop Manager with a minimum of 7 years experience in a similar role, ideally with experience in crane hire. This hands on role will include overseeing a team of Technicians responsible for the repair and maintenance of Plant machinery, specifically mobile cranes.

Recent and relevant technical and managerial experience is essential (minimum 7 years at Supervisory/ Management level), together with relevant formal qualifications would be an advantage. Knowledge of electrical, hydraulics and diesel mechanics is essential.

We are looking for a keen self-motivated person who can work in a busy environment, work through a task from fault finding, ordering parts, repairing or replacing and completing the paperwork and administration for internal and external repairs. To manage cost control and budgets.

Ensure that all staff are fully instructed on safe workshop practices and correct use of all workshop equipment. Leading, motivating and supporting them to work to a high standard. Responsible for people and performance management of the team including time and attendance. Responsible for the daily control of the workshop to maintain a high level of productivity and quality repair. Ensure customer satisfaction and Company performance targets are met.

This is an exciting challenge for an experienced Workshop Controller with excellent management skills to supervise and prioritise the Technicians within a busy Plant Hire business. Experience: You must be either an experienced Workshop Controller or someone with a technical workshop background who wants to take the next step in their career.

A vehicle is provided as part of the role. There will be occasional callouts - however, this is rare. Your daily role will require an overview of all machines, working with the prep team and workshop team. Making sure all company vehicles and machinery are compliant and the relevant documents are current.
