**RESPONSIBILITIES**

Ensure that all work is processed and reported timeously.

Maintenance of all laboratories testing equipment used for analysis - ensuring the relevant internal quality controls is done.
- Reagent/media preparation.
- Reporting any concerns/ malfunctions to the laboratory manager.
- Inform the QAM when any laboratory procedures/processes changes in order to update the QMS.
- Perform after hours/shift duties, weekends and public holidays.
- Assist in orientation and training of new lab staff with laboratory routine.
- Co-ordination of work to establish good work flow, to achieve maximum productivity
- Recording of laboratory quality logs, sheets, forms etc.
- Knowledge of Tempo database.
- Ensuring all reagents and supplies are adequate and available in the laboratory.
- Collating workload statistics

**TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITY**
- Ensure that the test reports are signed; understand the contents of the report.
- Technical signatory for all technical microbiology methods.
- Serve as technical signatory for full scope of laboratory tests.
- Ensuring the quality of test results and validations of methods.
- Ensuring that all results are reported accurately, unambiguously and objectively.
- Authorizes the test reports by accepting the responsibility on the contents of the test reports.
- Participate in all external and internal QA testing to ensure competency.
- Participating in evaluating method procedures and method validations.
- Maintain a safe work environment as per the laboratory health & safety manual.
- Use of personal Protective equipment viz. lab coats and gloves.
- Maintain a clean laboratory environment by disinfecting benches/equipment daily.
- Disposing of hazardous waste according to waste management policy.
- Assist in extending the scope of laboratory tests.
- General improvement of laboratory, ie. Extending of technical methods.

**QUALIFICATIONS/ REQUIREMENTS**
- Matric
- Relevant qualification as a Technician
- 2/3 Years working experience ( Food Lab Advantage )
