A leading independent stockbroking and private wealth management company offering local and offshore private client equity portfolio management and trading services is looking for a dynamic, experienced, and appropriately qualified Stockbroker / Portfolio Manager who is also able to function at senior management and on a strategic level to join their business.
Portfolio management:
- Effectively performing the role of a discretionary equities’ portfolio manager of retail clients.
- To foster a good working relationship with both internal and external referring advisors and agents and to manage portfolios referred or assigned to you in terms of the company investment philosophies and agreed upon strategies.
- To build a portfolio of managed client accounts by targeting prospective clients and networking in the community to build, grow and retain your own discretionary managed book.
- Dealing directly with clients, providing advice to them regarding their investment portfolios, following trading instructions of clients, discretionary management of and trading on accounts as and where appropriate and ensuring that clients receive excellent communication and feedback on an ongoing basis.
- Ensuring that portfolios are managed in accordance with client requirements, wishes and investment mandate and cautioning clients accordingly if you feel that a client’s wishes are not in their best interests.
- To foster strong client relationships.
- Being part of the Investment committee responsible for constructing model portfolios and generating investment ideas - actively contributing and assisting with building of and improvement of models.
- Daily research of local and global stocks to ensure an excellent and ongoing understanding of both macro-economic conditions and company investment fundamentals.
**Other duties and responsibilities will include but not be limited to**:
- Acting as a member of senior management, contributing to business strategy.
- Ensuring and assisting with compliance of both internal and regulatory requirements.
- Writing articles / blogs.
- Research.
- Ensuring a strong working knowledge of all internal policies and procedures and regulatory requirements (JSE Equities Rules and Directives, FAIS, FICA, POPIA etc.);
- Other duties in this regard that may be required from time to time.
- Following general instructions from senior management from time to time and performing general duties as may be assigned from time to time that are reasonable and appropriate to the needs of the Company.
- Helping foster and ensure an overall positive working environment work all.
- JSE Traders Exams - required.
- RPE equity modules - required.
- Stockbroking board exams, Chartered Financial Analyst Charter holder or similar required.
- RE1 and RE5, FAIS - beneficial
- Minimum 5 years financial markets experience
- Strong people/relationship management skills
- Strategic thinker with proven track record in that regard Required Qualifications and experience.
- A background as an investment analyst (in earlier period of career) will be advantageous (or other proof of good experience analyzing equity securities);
- Must have strong experience dealing directly with high-net-worth individuals as a share portfolio (i.e., not a portfolio manager for a fund / portfolio
- Must have direct client advisory experience)
- Needs to be able to build financial models and produce valuations.
- Ideally will have experience within investment committees putting portfolios together, taking into consideration current macro trends.
- Typically, the analytical experience would come in the earlier periods on their careers with the typical progression to portfolio manager and portfolio construction.
- Ultimately, the person needs to be very dynamic and capable to be one of our possible succession plans for future MD of the business if the position opens up.
