Introduction

The Head of Facilities is responsible for providing a safe, secure, clean, productive and well-maintained physical environment for all racecourse staff and patrons by planning and delivering professional services that is sustainable and supportive of all work, activities and events that occur at all properties.

The Head of Facilities must ensure that the physical environment is safe, secure, clean, productive for all staff. The Head of Facilities will report to the Facilities Executive.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic management and business planning:

- Resource and allocation planning.
- Creating operational plans from organisational strategy.
- Knowledge of safety policies, procedures and legislation.

General and facilities management:

- Implement contractual agreements with service providers and suppliers.
- Monitor and manage contractual agreements with service providers and suppliers.
- Implement and co-ordinate daily operational and maintenance plans.
- Co-ordinate cleaning as required.
- Plan and co-ordinate installations.
- Ensure compliance to health and safety procedures.
- Identify potential risks.
- Recommend process improvements.
- Co-ordinate general maintenance and repair of retail outlets.
- Facilitate venue grading.
- Work with the professional construction team, ensuring compliance to all relevant legislation.

Financial management and administration:

- Manage costs against approved budget.
- Investigate methods to reduce/contain costs.
- Obtain quotations to procure goods and services.
- Forecast annual operational and capital budgets.

People development:

- Ensure the completion of departmental job descriptions.
- Ensure the completion of personal development plans for staff.
- Manage work performance of all employees.
- Manage staff performance appraisal process.
- Manage departmental training interventions.
- Manage leave, attendance and absenteeism.

Stakeholder relationships:

- Represent the company at external forums, peer groups, conferences, etc.
- Handle queries from stakeholders.

Experience
- Minimum 5 years facilities management experience.
- Experience managing events and venue grading.
- Minimum 3 years supervisory experience.
- Working knowledge of health and safety in the sports, culture and lifestyle sector.
- Computer literate (MS Office suite).

Qualification(s)

Matric is required.

A Diploma or Degree in Facilities Management is required.
- A Diploma or Degree in Occupational Health and Safety is advantageous.
- NEBOSH certification advantageous.
- SAMTRAC certification advantageous.
- SACPCMP registration advantageous.
