**Descriptions**:
Overall responsibility for the mechanical condition of Anderson Transport vehicles.
Ensure that the quality of workmanship in the service departments are of a high standard and in accordance with the Anderson Transport standard and O.E.M’s.
Responsible for the overall planning of work within the service department taking into account the service intervals of vehicles and the needs of the clients.
Managing and controlling the purchasing of parts, units or components to ensure cost effectiveness and conjunction with buyer.
Responsible to ensure compliance with safety rules and regulations in the work environment as required by Anderson Transport and legislation.
Guide and promote safe work performance by enforcing safety policies; implementing safety campaigns and training employees in safe practices and first aid.
Eliminate or minimize hazardous situations by developing and recommending safety policies and procedures, installing safety devices on machinery and ensuring employees under his supervision use personal safety clothing and equipment.
Maintain safety information database by recording all workshop-related
Accidents and injuries and backing up data.
Control expenditure by strict supervision over all work carried out by the Workshop division and by maintaining accurate administration of job cards and proper costing of all subcontractor work done.
Ensure that all previous work done has yielded satisfactory results by authorizing the work only after reviewing the vehicle history card to ascertain when the work was last done, and record the kilometers covered since the last job in a component life, data base.
Minimize vehicle turnaround time while in the workshop division and maximize the quality of work done.
Ensure that all work is carried out in terms of the manufacturers’ technical recommendations, with suitably qualified staff, by allocating jobs in accordance with Company Policy relating to Qualified Technicians. Repair Shop Assistants and Skilled Workers.
Extract maximum reliability and endurance from mechanical components by ensuring that best practices for fleet maintenance and repair are followed at all times, and in accordance with the Maintenance Policy set by the Company.
Achieve acceptable labor efficiency by strict supervision over all work in progress and controlling hours booked against work completed.
Provide expedient response to all road call.
Oversee and/or take responsibility to manage and co-ordinate any breakdowns.
Ensure that proper records are kept on the Anderson Fleet with regard to Service records, maintenance, breakdowns, repairs etc.
Final authorization and inspection of work needed on vehicle with regard to warranty work or work to be done within Anderson Transport.
Responsible for all vehicles departing from Alrode Depot that vehicles are in a roadworthy condition.
The execution of repairs, maintenance, standard services and majors (annual services) on trailers in accordance with laid down guidelines and standards as determined by National Technical Manager.
Responsible for reporting any faults or unusual defects on trailers to management regarding repair, maintenance, structural errors and tyres.
Perform quality checks on all trailers in Alrode depot.
Responsible for all welding works on trailers and general welding as requested by management.
Assist with the performance of repairs, maintenance and standard services in accordance with stipulated guidelines and standards as determined by the Technical Manager.
Control of work assigned to group in workshop to ensure that work is performed according to agreed guidelines and standards.
Assist and advise other co-mechanics and general workers as needed.
Responsible for reporting any errors/ faults or unusual defects on vehicles to management.
Responsible for ensuring that work environment is safe and safety equipment is used where necessary. (Mechanical expert and general worker)
Perform quality checks on vehicles in depot.
Purchasing of new tyre stock with approval of Directors.
After hour breakdowns to supply tyres as necessary.
Monitoring of tyres referring to run-flat, impact, side-wall separation, etc.
Purchasing of correct casings at the negotiated rates.
Determine necessary stock and getting approval for purchasing and order numbers.
Authorize the tax invoices for tyres.
Liaise with the suppliers all the time for best prices on hand.
Attending to all tyre maintenance.
Responsible for the execution of welding tasks in relation to repairs and/or alterations and/or construction of vehicles and trailers.
Responsible for performing ‘bending tasks’ in connection with repairs and/or alterations and/or construction of vehicles and vans.
Recruitment, selection and appointment of personnel for the service department in collaboration with personnel administration.
Responsible to ensure those personnel in the service department is trained and develope
