An exciting opportunity has arisen for a** 1**st** Mate **responsible for the safety, navigation, cleanliness and operation of a trawler and the total complement on board and who directs fishing operations of the vessel.

**MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS**:
**EXPERIENCE**:

- 3 Years experience sailing as a 1st Mate

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Officer in charge of Navigational Watch - under 24m/ Fisherman Grade 3

**JOB SPECIFICATION**:
**KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS**:

- Watch Keeping Duties
- Custodian of Navigational Equipment on the vessel
- Use of appropriate trawl nets for the specific targeted species
- Proper net and gear management for protection and prevention of gear loss
- Safety Officer on board
- Ensure proper fillet conversion on the freezer vessels in line with targets.
- Achieve tons per sea day as per business plan.
- Ensure good quality products are caught, processed and Manage Waste and costs.
- Manage fishing time to achieve 75% scoring on tons per day (Sea Day)
- Conduct vessel audits and inspections before sailing and after docking including recording drill meetings with crew members.
- Ensure that all safety codes are up to date and amended appropriately.
- Vessel hygiene and housekeeping of vessel
- Ensure that all certificates of competencies are valid (checked and signed off before sailing)
- Guide and support staff to achieve vessel performance targets.
- Take appropriate correction when required.
- Identify training requirements.
- Assist with the management of the vessel “Care” program which includes, housekeeping QC, Engineering QC, equipment damage and failure with RCA reporting and converting corrective maintenance into progressive and planned
