Freelance Sports Journalist

The Citizen is seeking a freelance sports journalist to work weekends within the editorial department, reporting to the head of sport.

**Purpose**:
To generate up-to-date, relevant and accurate Sports content in immediate time for the Citizen website over weekends.
He or she will also be required to edit content and upload to the website.
He or she will also be able to run live sports blogs when needed.

**Main responsibilities**:
Production of accurate and well-written sports copy for the website.
Establishing and maintaining a following on Twitter.
Gathering of news from a variety of reliable sources.
Generation of ideas and proposals for new stories.
Covering important events/issues timeously. Knowledge/experience:
Wide knowledge and passion for sport.
Three years’ relevant experience in a similar position. Skills:
MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Outlook.
Knowledge and understanding of digital publishing platform WordPress or similar platform.
Knowledge of live blogs.

Proven journalistic track record.
Knowledge of media law.
