Lecturer in Gis

**Duties and responsibilities**
- Teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses in areas of Geographic Information System (GIS) and contribute to teaching within the broad field of geospatial science.
Promote graduate studies and maintain active research in the GIS field.
- Contribute to strengthening the geospatial programme in the school, such as course development, course assessment and curriculum review.
- Advise undergraduate and postgraduate students on the registration requirements with recognised South African Professional Organisation such as the South African Geomatics Council (SAGC) and South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions (SACNASP).
- Participate in the school and university committees as appropriate.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

**Minimum Requirements and Competencies**:

- PhD and BSc (Honours) in GIS, Geomatic, Geoinformatics or surveying.
- Evidence of specialisation in GIS Spatial data infrastructures (SDIs) and/or database management and web GIS.
- Experience in Geocomputation, advanced spatial modelling, and evidence of teaching programming languages such as Python, JavaScript or R in a GIS (or related) context.
- Working experiences with multiple GIS software packages (commercial and open
- source).
- Demonstrated research experience in GIS science as evidenced by a record of publications and external funding,
- Capability to teach spatial data legislation and ethics as well as advanced spatial database design and management with different Database management systems (open source and commercial)
- Registration or eligibility to register with a recognised South African Professional Organisation, such as the South African Geomatics Council (SAGC), will be an added advantage.
- Work experience will be advantageous
