Laboratory Manager and Quality Coordinator
Job Description & Key Performance Areas
His/her role is to oversee all matters pertaining to the operation and function of the laboratory and include the following:
Ensure the workplace is always neat and clean i.e. A place for everything, and everything on its place
Ensure safety standards are in place and implemented
Conduct QC testing on production batches in process
Manage and maintain the process for Retention Sampling
Calibrate Laboratory equipment and maintain the register
Maintain and replenish Laboratory reagents, glassware and other utensils
Assist with R&D work as required. 10 years’ experience.
Cross check all Raw Materials weighed off by Mixers and ensure accuracy
Identify training needs for Mixers and conduct training where required
Assist with Internal Audits as required
Identify new/improved test methods and/or equipment in order to keep the Company at the forefront of development
Quality management systems and ISO 9001 is essential.
Job specific activities:
1. Time Management
- a. Attend the Production Planning meeting at 07:30 each morning
b. Familiarise yourself with the workload for the day and plan accordingly
c. Know what jobs Production staff are busy with and where the panics are
2. Quality Control
- a. Check all samples coming to the lab as soon as possible
b. Prompt Mixers to bring samples for re-testing where the batch was tweaked
c. Keep the Production Board up-to-date
d. Calibrate the pH meter on 2-weekly basis and maintain the register
e. Ensure job cards are signed by Mixers and filled out correctly
f. Cross check all Raw Material weights and counter sign job cards
g. Maintain the Raw Material warehouse and keep stock clearly marked and stacked
h. Pay attention to detail.
3. House Keeping
- a. Ensure the Laboratory and Production plant are left clean, tidy and safe at the end of each working day
b. Oversee daily/weekly cleaning of the Laboratory and Production plant in accordance with the Cleaning Schedule
c. Report all safety and maintenance matters to the Managing Director.
