- Purpose of the Job

The Non-RSA Division is looking to appoint a Buyer (Foods) for deployment as an expat to any of our Non-RSA countries. The purpose will be to manage competitiveness, overall profitability and customer satisfaction. The Foods Buyer will be responsible for overseeing the buying process end to end. A key responsibility is to formulate short
- to medium-term category growth strategies based on strong category expertise, customer understanding, knowledge of suppliers and trends impacting selected categories. This will be achieved by managing sales and profit performance daily, optimise product assortments, store ranging, pricing, promotions and merchandise display.

To buy effectively so as to ensure sales growth and increase in gross margins, in addition to necessary advertising spend recoupment. Key outputs include: 1. Product range and line determination 2. Product pricing administration 3. Advertising and promotions management 4. Buyer assistant management 5. Stock level issues resolution in the stores and the distribution centres 6. Merchandising layout determination 7. Transfer of skills to, or coaching of, Trainee Buyers.

Operating as a key member of the Non-RSA Buying team, the Buyer (Foods) will also be performing sourcing and buying responsibilities for selected categories. The Buyer will work closely with the Buying, Marketing and Operations teams on a day to day basis to embed customer understanding, ensure consistent execution and monitor performance. The role is fast-paced and requires a high-energy self-starter with the ability to work with precision under pressure. Also have a demonstrated aptitude for formulating category strategies, conduct supplier negotiations, utilise customer insights and have a strong execution track record as well as the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and with people at all levels in an organisation.

- Qualifications

Essential - Graduate qualification - BCom/ Degree / Diploma in Business (sales, supply chain, procurement or a related field)
- Experience

Essential - 3-5 years experience in buying within a food retail environment advantageous - Retail experience, especially FMCG - Successful completion of the Trainee Buyer Programme
- Knowledge and Skills
