**Lead Specialist: Data Science**

Oversee all delivery within the data science team, and impart theoretical knowledge and technical skills to junior roles within the team.

Drive the development of a community of data science practitioners to execute on big data strategy. The role will be critical in ensuring advanced data science techniques are applied to complex business problems. Working closely with business areas to identify unique and exciting data solutions to complex business problems that provide a competitive and strategic advantage and commercial uplift or increase in efficiencies to the organisation. Maintain talent and quality of work by continuously keeping abreast of industry best practices, new and innovative data practices, and creating and partaking in industry data events to grow awareness and excitement around data science capability in the market in order to attract best in class external talent.

**Key accountabilities**

Develop and lead a strategic data science roadmap that covers technologies, techniques, standards and governance for all data science modelling

Creation of a data science community through partnership with existing teams data science as a capability can be matured and where the data science roadmap can be implemented

Partner with business areas to identify opportunities for data science to create commercial uplift and increase in efficiencies.

Provide a framework for prioritisation of data science projects to ensure best strategic advantage and ensure that thorough project management and agile principles are applied to get maximum delivery.

Development of a plan for the creation of a data science presence both internally as well as externally in the market to position the company as a market leader in data science and to attract best in class talent.

Lead a team of both junior and senior data scientists, create a culture of continuous learning and mentorship across the team.

Ensure that all applicable data risk management standards and policies are adhered too, and also play an active role in the creation, implementation, and maintenance of robust model governance to ensure uniformity and scale of all data models produced.
