- Job Description
- Lead the implementation of the Group Safety strategy at site.
- Guide the implementation and coordination of safety programmes to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and company policies, guidelines and procedures.
- Provide input, assess and refine existing safety procedures.
- Advise the line on most appropriate critical controls to implement for any given safety risk and support continuous improvement of these over time.
- Provide input on appropriate Safety KPI thresholds/targets for the area of responsibility.
- Advise operations on the required skill development plan/program to enhance capabilities of employees & contractors to achieve excellence in safety.
- Provide specialist Safety advise and coaching: o Provide guidance to HOD’s on what should be done within the current Safety Management system to address trends identified. o Advise on hazard identification, workforce competency and capability assessments, and safety management procedures, inspections, and reporting within and external to the mining industry. o Consult on high level risk assessment.
- Conduct safety interactions/interventions: o Establish safety leadership in the course of on-site employee engagements and actively engage in Visible Felt Leadership interactions (VFL) o Participate in relevant safety audits, inspections and observations, and address issues as part of demonstrating strong safety leadership. o Conduct joint leadership safety visits with contractor leadership. o Engage with contractor leadership to determine underlying issue of bad safety performance and hold them accountable for performance. o Supports safety advises, initiatives & best practices provided to contract owners.
- Facilitate comprehensive incident analysis in line with the safety protocols. - Facilitate independent review of serious incidents and all accidents. - Conduct trend analysis on safety and report on these.

- Identify specific risks within working area and adhere to discipline-specific plans/system.
- Implement Safety & Health systems within work area as per AAP standards.

**Sustainability & Social**:

- Comply with environmental and social requirements as relevant to discipline.

**People & Teams**:

- Participate in all team engagements where necessary.
- Hold individuals to account in line with their role authority and accountability structures.
- Support efforts to overcome operational problems.
- Ensure effective communication with team members.

**Compliance**:

- Adhere to external local compliance requirements as a minimum level of site performance.
- Adhere to Anglo American compliance requirements and ensure compliance of team.
- Adhere to compliance governance within the team.

**This role reports to the SHE Manager and will have direct reports (Chief Safety Officers and Safety Officers).**

**Qualifications
- You must have**:

- Essential requirement: educated to a graduate level (Bachelors / Honors degree or equivalent) in a relevant discipline (such as safety, mining, engineering or other related careers).

**Experience required**:

- Practical safety experience of at least 5 to 7 years of which 3 years experience as a Chief Safety Officer.
- A demonstrated and accomplished Safety Practitioner.
- A proven track record and extensive practical experience in a role and context of similar complexity in a relevant discipline.
- Track record of leading ideas generation; translating these into practical initiatives to be implemented and demonstration of successful execution and delivery within Safety improvement projects.
- Demonstrated success on business/process improvement projects.
- Provides a consistent outstanding role model in relation to safety practices with a deep understanding of the importance of safety.
