**LECTURER**
A vacancy exists for a suitably qualified, experienced, and appropriately registered
clinical psychologist in the above post. The individual will form part of a dynamic
team, responsible for undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and both
academic and clinical supervision in psychology. The incumbent will form part of
the Department of Psychology, within the School of Social Sciences, Faculty of
Humanities.
**Requirements for a Lecturer**:
- A Masters’ degree in Clinical Psychology.
- Completion of a Bachelor of Psychology (B. Psych.) degree is highly
recommended..
- Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA)
as a clinical psychologist is required.
- Have a minimum of 3 (three) years post-qualification experience as a clinical
psychologist.
- Commitment to higher education norms and standards.
- Capacity to promote the Department of Psychology’s mission and position
to internal university constituencies and external stakeholders.
- A fair understanding of the challenges facing the higher education sector.
**Duties of a Lecturer**:
- **Teaching and Learning**: Full involvement in all courses, updating material
in par with national and international trends; teaching and evaluation of
assigned courses; and identifying at risk students and facilitating, where
possible, additional assistance for them.
- **Research**: Undertaking discipline related research individually and in project
teams; attending and actively participating in national and international
conferences; publishing DHET approved journal articles, book chapters and/or
books; and supervising Psychology Honours and Masters’ students’ academic
research projects.
- **Academic citizenship**: Involvement in community engagements and taking an
active role in professional organisations.
- **Governance**: Preparing course outlines and study guides, organising course
files, delivering according to set deadlines, records of all academic activities;
and participating in departmental, school and faculty committees.
- **Performance appraisal.** Taking part in regular performance appraisal
assessments.
