**About Group Tax**
- The Group Tax Department is responsible for the Tax Strategy of Discovery. This encompasses the following functions:
- Responsible for tax planning, compliance, reporting throughout the group
- Provides technical advice to business to ensure compliance with existing and new legislation
- Responsible for tax calculations, tax return submissions, tax accounting and reporting
- Engaging with and managing relationships with SARS

**Key Purpose of the role**- **Areas of responsibility may include but not limited to**
- Assume full responsibility for various provisional, income tax, deferred tax calculations and IFRS reporting requirements for various companies within the group, as well as submission of various tax returns and resolving any related tax queries.
- Researching the tax consequences of business transactions to ensure compliance with the Income Tax Act, VAT Act and Tax Administration Act.
- Independently drafting responses to SARS, liasing with them directly and maintaining a healthy relationship with them by responding to queries efficiently.
- Liase directly with business units in terms of their tax related queries for new products and/or new transactions in order to advise them on the relevant tax consequences and tax efficiency considerations
- Liase directly with auditors and external advisors and resolve tax matters as required
- Resolve any tax administration matters that arise for various subsidiaries across the SA group
- Analysing financial data and preparing informational reports, schedules and dashboards.
- Drafting technical tax research papers and file notes
- Providing technical training updates as required.
- Performing additional tasks and projects to support the Group Tax team and Head of Group Tax as required.

**Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience**
- CA (SA)
- Post graduate studies in taxation beneficial
- Excellent Excel knowledge
- Knowledge and understanding of IFRS
- 3-5 years’ experience in a tax department within a consulting firm or corporate, (financial services / insurance is advantageous) dealing with various tax matters including Income tax.
