Heatset Operator

**PURPOSE**

To efficiently perform all jobs relating to creeling, machine operating and packing of yarns in the Pattern Split division within the Heatset Department.

This position reports to the Heatset supervisor

**Responsibilities**:
**Creeling**:

- Establish from the Supervisor, which crate of twisted yarn to use for heat setting.
- Prior to loading on the creel, a visual check is to be done on each bobbin for quality, removing low twist/uneven tension bobbins or any defective bobbin.
- The bobbins are to be top and tailed with the use of a splicing gun in sequence to ensure continuous operation.
- Ensure that rejected bobbins are neatly packed into a crate of the same product. This is done with the Supervisors’ approval.
- Responsible for informing the Supervisor of bobbins without tails to ensure that a tail is made.
- Responsible for constantly monitoring the tension devices to remove any foreign matter; tension on yarn to be monitored using a tension meter.
- Responsible for monitoring the number of ends running into the Heatset machine to ensure that if one end breaks, the remaining ends are cut off immediately, and the correct number of ends re-threaded into the machine.

**Operating machines**
- Ensure that the correct CSV (Comma Separated Value) file is loaded
- .
- Ensure that the correct crates are behind the creel (Dye lot).
- Ensure that the correct case numbers and control sheets are ticked and signed off.
- Ensure that the thread up is done correctly.
- Attend to yarn breaks immediately and ensure that the winders run continuously.
- Perform regular inspections of the yarn and bobbins from the winders.
- Use the splicing gun to join the yarn.
- Responsible for tying up the ends of the doffed bobbins and packing the bobbins into a crate.
- Assist in the training of new operators.**Packing**:

- Responsible for double checking that all used labels are removed and discarded from the crates. The supervisor will ensure that crates with labels on will not be allowed in the department.
- Responsible for visually checking each bobbin as they come to on the end of the conveyor. Completed bobbins to be packed into the crates layer by layer (the same number of bobbins in each layer and each row).
- Ensure that part or incomplete bobbins are packed into the last crate of that job.
- In the case of Export jobs, responsible for visually checking the bobbins, attaching labels to the yarn carriers and placing the bobbins into plastic bags and packing them into a crate.
- Responsible for putting all full crates onto the scale with a pallet jack.
- Responsible for capturing the weight of the crates on the D365 system, which will generate a computer label. This label is attached to that crate.
- Responsible for transporting crates to the Work in Progress (WIP) area.
- Ensure that substandard bobbins, with the approval of the Supervisor, are packed neatly into the Grade 2 crate situated at the side of Machine.
- Ensure that all aspirated waste is weighed and removed at the end of each shift. ** General**
- Responsible for housekeeping of the machine and the entire work area
- Work within the company and departments rules and regulation
- Must be able to follow any reasonable instruction given by superior.
- Observe and adhere to Health and Safety requirements

**Requirements**:

- At least 1 year experience as a machine operator is essential
- Working Experience within the Heatset Department will be an added advantage
- Knowledge of a Live Monitoring System is advantages
- Good knowledge and understanding of ISO 90001 is advantageous
- Must not be colour blind

**Qualifications**:

- Grade 12/Matric with Maths is essential
